|Water Dog||That would take care of the dome light, but what about the two courtesy lights under the dash that come on with it? That light circuit is switched on the ground side. An easier solution FWIW, is to take the two screws out of the top of the fuse block and cut and put a switch leg between the black wires coming out of fuse #4. like the diagram.|

The trim that the switches and wiring are in are stock from the dealer.

hello i like the place you put the switches i have been looking for this trim for a week now did they come on your jeep or are they aftermarket would love a set of them

I thought about the fuse tap, but unpluging the driver door plunger did the same thing.
But then again, either one disables the chime, and well i want that chime function. With me and my luck, if the chime was disabled, i would leave the lights on and come out to a dead battery. which is why i did this. ;-)

Look clean, never did understand why every vehicle in the world has a switch on the dome lights, but our Jeeps don't.
However, why not just use a fuse tap and put a switch on the fuse? I like having the chime as well, but the only time you should need this is when the doors are off, making the chime useless anyways.

Dome Light bypass switch
I know this has been covered but I extended this mod to suit me and my psycho needs
When i take the doors off, the pesky dome light likes to stay on. Now I have pulled the plunger, pulled the bulbs, even pulled the fuse. Now pulling the fuse and the door plunger was nice but then it disabled the chimes.(some of you may say that the chimes still work. Well, on my TJ, they do not. I tried it many times)
So being who I am, and knowing i would leave the headlights on without the chime, i did my own mod. Basically, I put two swithes next to the driver door, one is in-line feeding the dome lights directly, the other is in-line with the door plunger switch. Why both? Well one to control just the lights, and one if i want to sit somewhere with the doors off, engine off, but radio on.
Anyways, the first thing I did was research wire color codes for my jeep along with finding a electrical schematic to make sure i would not cross any wire or what not.
After that, i followed the wires to I know where they ran. The dome light on my jeep runs under the padding from the speaker pod, down next to the driver, then runs under the drivers door jam and then into the dash. And right here, where the wire starts going up into the dash is where i am going to splice into the wire feeding the dome light.
I then opened up the speaker pod to confirm wire color.
After I confirmed wire color, i did my splicing... (I did the splicing of connectors in a way that if I wanted to, i could remove the added switches if desired)
In this case, i added an extra empty connector to allow me to add lights under the dash in the future.
So now it is time to mount the switchs... I choose to mount them on the black bezel that goes up from the dash to the top of the windshield.
I removed the piece and drilled my holes...
i then wired my switches...
And mounted the switches in the bezel
I then ran the wires in the dash (It was simple, they just dropped down), and connected the connectors into the splice i made to the dome light and reinstalled the bezel
Now I was not able to get any good pictures of the splice i did to the door plunger, but I did, and everything works great.
The top switch is the dome light switch, and the bottom switch is for the drivers door plunger.
now, I also added a bypass switch to the passenger door plunger and mounted it in the same location on the passenger side.
Anyways, this is just my two cents. Please be nice, this is the first write up i have done
