01TJSE His is a 4.0, mine is a 2.5. I ordered one and installed it on my Jeep with the heat shield intact. I wasn't to worried about mine since I'm doing a V8 swap in the near future. He wanted to take his off and paint the manifold to match his valve cover. After I told him about the recall that wheel2work informed us about, he painted it with the shield on. Looks kinda funky to me, but it's his ride not mine.

Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Question.

A friend of mine wants to know what it would hurt removing the heat shield off his new exhaust manifold prior to us replacing the cracked old one. I replaced mine a few months ago and left it on, he want's to take his shield off to paint the manifold. (cause he thinks he's special) Then install it without the heat shield. So before he starts drilling out the rivets to take it off, can someone tell me the benefit of the heat shield or no heat shield with Rustoleum paint?

Thanks!
