The writeup recommends 16 quarts ATF:
Find out the capacity of the stock pan = A
Find out the capacity of deep pan = B
Find out the capacity of derale cooler = C
(B - A) + C = Additional amount of ATF you need to buy.
If you can't find C, just use the B - A, and then check level, add, check level, etc.. until it's filled. Just don't overfill (at least not more than say 1/2 quart)

I'd also like to take a second to ask how many quarts of ATF+4 will I need to get for a complete flush on a 32RH with new deep pan and Derale Trans Cooler?

There is no suction on the return line. Pressure line pushes the fluid through the cooler and back to the transmission.
Suction is at the filter. And no don't try it. You'll end up with fluid spraying everywhere.

|Jerry Bransford||The 'in' and 'out' transmission cooler hoses connect to the bottom of the radiator, the two smaller hoses at the very bottom. The hose connected to the driver's side is pumping ATF into the radiator cooler, the hose leading from the passenger-side of the radiator is the cooler's out hose. That (passenger-side) is the hose to disconnect to flush your system. Make sure to add fresh ATF+4 as the old ATF drains out, don't run it dry.|

|ipleadda2nd||I have heard that auto trans flushes offered at like JiffyLube are actually bad for the tranny. Is this true? If so, isn't this the same setup, minus the nice looking flush machine. It functions the same, right?|

|herbie||pulled the pan off a ford taurus that took on water /ran a hose into a five gallon pail from the suction port filled pail four times to get clean fluid but it came out ok in the end and this one looked like a strawberry milkshake|

Would this be a possibility?
Have a jug to drain into and have another one for the refil. The Jeep would sip from the new jug and there is no work for you to do except supervise. Just pour the correct amount up and then the new oil is gone the old oil ought to be out.
Good in theory but is that right?

If I may, add two things. #1 trans in neutral. No fluid pressure if left in drive, fluid just dribbles out.
Ask me how I know........Duh!
Use the first shot of fluid to back flush the cooler. Use the pressure side line from the in side of the cooler, and connect to the out side of the cooler. Fluid will back flush cooler for you. Then pull the hose and continue as you did.

2003 TJ 42RLE TRANS DRIVEWAY FLUSH
Socket Extension Bar
T25 Torx Bit w/ Driver
Rinsed, Clean & Dry 1 Gallon Plastic Milk Jug
Container Graduated In Quarts = At Least 8 Quarts.
6 or 8ft of 3/8 ID Clear Plastic Tubing
16 Quarts ATF+4
Lots & Lots & Lots of rags.
Draining the trans pan does not remove all the old trans fluid. The torque converter holds about half. Todays torque converters do not have drain plugs like they did in the old days. Trans fluid must be FLUSHED out of the trans. To flush a trans you need a pump.
SURPRISE!! Your trans just happens to have a pump!! Lets use that.
WHAT WE WILL DO>
We will drain the pan & replace the filter & overfill the pan with clean fluid by 2 Quarts.
We will connect a discharge hose downsteam from the radiator cooler.
We will start the truck and let the trans pump purge the old fluid with fresh fluid as we pour more fresh fluid into the trans maintaining the trans fluid level.
D O N E
Easy as pie. Here is the math>
42RLE capacity 9qts 9qts
Drain from pan -5qts 4qts
Refill pan +7qts 11qts
Pour into trans +4qts 15qts
Pump out -6qts 9qts
Leaving you with 1 spare quart to carry in your truck.
1 - Warmup TJ With A Short Drive.
2 Remove Forward Bash Plate.
(2 - 18mm & 2 - 13mm Bolts)
3 Drain Pan & Let Drip.
(From Owner Installed Drain Plug 1/2Plug With 3/8Gasket & 3/4 Backer Nut)
4 Drop Trans Pan & Let Drip.
(13 - 10mm Bolts)
5 Drop Filter & Drain.
(2 T25 Torx Bolts)
6 Install New Filter.
If Your Pan Does Not Have A Drain Plug This Is The Time To Install One Any Good Auto Parts Store Carry Kits For A Couple Of Bucks.
This Is The Perfect Time To Upgrade Pan To Aluminum Pan With Cooling Fins And Drain Plug.
7 Reinstall Pan Plug w/ New Plug Gasket.
8 Clean Pan.
9 Remove Pan Magnet & Inspect.
(Small Shavings = Ok Chunks =Take To Trans Shop For Inspection & Advice)
10 Reinstall Pan w/ Cleaned Magnet & New Pan Gasket.
11 Add 7 Quarts ATF+4 To Pan.
12 Disconnect Short Cooler Hose From Bottom Of Radiator & Drain.
(This Is An Good Time To Replace Both Cooler Hoses & Clamps)
13 Connect 3/8 ID Clear Tubing To Radiator Fitting.
14 Route Tubing Into Graduated Container & Secure From Jumping Out When Oil Begins To Flow.
15 Pour 4 Quarts ATF+4 Into a Clean, Dry Plastic Milk Jug.
16 Position Graduated Container So You Can Read The Graduations As It Fills From Where You Will Be Adding Fluid Into The Trans Dipstick Tube.
17 Start Truck. As Fluid Flows Into The Container, Pour Fluid From The Jug Into The Trans. Try To Match The Discharge Flow Rate.
18 When The Container Reaches 6 Quarts Turn Truck Off.
19 Remove Tubing & Drain.
20 Re-Attach Short Cooler Hose To Radiator & Clamp.
21 Start Truck, Check For Any Leaks & Check Level. Shift Through All The Gears A Number Of Times To Purge Any Air.
22 Take A Long Drive Stopping And Checking The Level Several Times. Re Check Pan & Hoses For Leaks.
25 Done. Return Home And Clean Up Your Mess.
26 Dont Forget To Record Your Trucks Mileage. Do It Again In 30,000 Miles.
Automatic Transmissions Will Last Forever If Properly Maintained.
Leading Causes Of Auto Trans Fail>
1 - Not Changing The Fluid.
2 Letting The Fluid Overheat.
3 Driving With Low Fluid Level.
Never Tow Without A Trans Cooler.
Never Tow Without a Trans Temp Gauge.
If Fluid Temp Exceeds 250F, Replace Fluid as Soon as Convenient.
THIS PROCEDURE WILL WORK WITH ANY AUTO TRANS.
YOU JUST HAVE TO MEASURE THE FLUID YOU REMOVE FROM THE PAN & FILTER. RE FILL WITH 1.5X WHAT YOU REMOVED.
