bluvikng I would think that the roof rack that uses brackets just above the tail lights, and the windsheild brackets would be your best choice. I don't think it would be very smart to drill into your hard top. You should not have any weight added to the fiberglass top, anymore than you would put weight on the soft top.

2005 Wrangler Hardtop

Has anyone mounted roof roof racks such as Yakima "landing pads" with "control towers" and bar to the Wrangler hardtop?
This method would require drilling thru the hardtop to permanently mount the landing pads. I would only be doing this in the rear of the top as I have a windshield bracket mounted bar for the front.
I don't think Jeep recommends mounting anything on the top but naturally they would say that.
The weight factor would be low but the wind stress would be a definate factor when carrying kayaks.
