|blktrax||I know my 03 and 06 had battery a temp sensor under them, i've not had the battery out of my 97 yet, but if that sensor is not hooked up or damaged, it can cause some funky things.|

Thanks, that's about what I figured.

|AzTJ||Remove the alternator and take it to an AutoZone for testing, might take the battery there as well. If the alternator checks out fine its the regulator, which sadly is located in the ECU.|

Voltage reg and lack of charge 1997 TJ
I used to post here, then things changed a bit. Now I'm back with a new malady.
20 seconds after starting my 1997 TJ with a 4 cyl and 5 speed, the voltage reg gauge ceases function (at start it moves to just under the 14 line:normal), the needle falls to the left, a bell/ping goes off and the red "check gauge" light illuminates. This has been happening for 4 days.
I checked my battery and I've got 11.3 volts. it appears that the alternator is not charging the battery. But, I know that the alternator doesn't "charge" per se, and the charging system is in the computer.
I'm tired and today has been hectic. I've just straightened out my 45 second after start bucking and hitching problem by replacing the upper O2 sensor. My poor jeep is doing it to me again......
Can someone who's knowledgeable about this situation please explain what's going on?
Thanks, I appreciate your help.
