yea my brakes are spongy too, I fixed most of the issue but they've always been a little soft so I was thinking about getting this.

Does anybody know anything about these and if they're worth it?

just re read-mine a 98-don't know if you have drum or disk on rear-this for drum.
had kinda the same prob. spongy for a while-progressivly getting worse, then all the way to the floor and light on. didn't really see fluid on the ground till i parked it and pumped the brakes a few times-rear wheel cyl. fairly easy and not too expensive-new cyl were $12 each(did both sides), brake cleaner, lg brk fluid, and self bleed kit was $40 something. hardest part gettin the tires,drums off. got out the ole FSM and was easier than i thought it would be. thought i'd have to take brakes completely apart-wrong. just jack up(block tires-no hand brake), take tire then drum off(may have to loosen via adjustment wheel), unhook the 2 top retaining springs-spread shoes open. remove brake line and remove 2 bolts holding cyl on. clean/seal around hole, install new cyl, hook up brk line. slide shoes back and make sure seated right(pay attention to hand brk cable-make sure it's in the little guide peice) replace drum/tire and repeat on other side. bleed brakes(self kit made it easy for 1 person). may or may not need to adj brk shoes.
price should be close-advanced auto maybe a month ago.
did take some time/sweat, but that was gettin the damn tires/drums off(rear always sucks)-the actual job was fairly easy and this from someone who is just getting back into doing my own work after a 20 yr vacation from it.

Neverfastenough, I see you point but on the rears I don't think it would be that bad if he waited a little while for cash. But I do agree with you, it is much better to do them both at the same time, and def if it's the front.
On another note, nice stang. I have a 91 vert bone stock. Think I'm gonna sink some money into it this winter.

Sounds like your rear brake cylinder. I had both of mine go within 6 months. I would think about changing both of them as preventive manintance but that's just my 2 cents... Your going to have your rear brakes changed at the same time so you might want to hold off and just do the bad side now and save up if
funds are tight.

|neverfastenough1||Don't know how much it will cost you, and I am not going to tell you to drive it like that. I can only tell you that I would drive it to a shop giving myself plenty of slowdown room and using the engine along with the e-brake to stop. I know people that only use their brake the last couple feet of a stop because they slow down to save on brake wear. Again, I am not telling you to do that, just that I would. Well I would fix it myself, but that is how I would get it home.|

|dutch36||I see some wetness inside the passenger side rear wheel. If I add brake fluid can i drive it? How much will this cost me at a mechanic? How long can I drive it?|

Brakes just add unecessary weight to the vehicle. Take them off and have some fun!
I keed I keed. Do what Peepers said, but you might not see it if a rear cylinder is leaking.

I've had brake lines let go on both of my vehicles and those are essentially the symptoms, low fluid and really soft pedal...

Help brake problem
My brake pedal felt soft and the brakes were not stoping as quickly as usual. The brake light came on. I just checked the brake fluid and it looked really low. Cant get to a mechanic until next week?
Any help about what I should do or what the problem may be would be great????
