Making a Universal Winch plate mount fit?

Been running around trying to get my new winch mounted up to my Smittybuilt SRC bumper. Was planning on building it to fit with some 1/4" steel I could get from a friend but figure its a lot easier to jut get a winch plate and space up the rear a 1/4" when mounting. A friend has a universal winch mount from Mile Marker. I held up to front of Jeep and no holes at all match up. I am sure I could just drill a few to help it all line up but IDK. Is it worth it or just find a piece of steel and weld to my bumpers edge and then bolt in the back so the winch fits perfect and probably a cleaner finish result..

Ideas? Anyone have pictures of how they mounted up with a big bumper?
