Jerry Bransford While spools aren't popular for the masses, they aren't too bad on the street. I wouldn't want one for the long-term but it'd be ok short-term until you can afford something better.

Caution that mini-spools, which replace the spider gears like a lunchbox locker does, aren't all that strong.

Questions on a mini spool for my jeep tj

I was out wheelin the other day and a little pice of a spider gear tooth broke off and got stuck in my ring and pinion and shot out my rear diff..I had to take the cover off and tac weld the hole in my diff cover to stop it from leaking but now when i make a sharp turn i get a little hoppage. Its a dana 44 on 35 inch km2's and im thinking about buying a mini spool to get me by until i can get a actual locker. Would this be a good option to run for a few months? i just dont want it to eat my tires up. I drive 2 miles to school everyday and then drive it to the trails but thats mostly highway dirving. Do you think it would be ok to run a mini spool? any input would be great.
thanks,
parker
