I must say it's quite a bit different now that the "college scene" is not my cup-o-tea

And I hate taking his car places now because every time I see another Jeep (minus the suburban soccer mom driving, of course), I see, "And if we were in my Jeep we would've gotten waved at." I love it.

Just installed a new radiator- top part had a crack on the old one and it was a little leaky. Getting a new header this week as the one that's in there is REALLY rusty and it's probably only a matter of time until it cracks. I had a 99 Cherokee before and I guess the headers cracking was a common problem, but not sure about Wranglers... Found a decent one on Amazon and it looks fairly easy to change. Of course by "easy" I mean hours of complications caused probably by rusty and/or stripped bolts, multiple trips to Ace and Shuck's, and lots of cursing. lol

Changed tranny fluid, oil, spark plugs/wires/cap, replacing the oil pan gaskets this week too (even though I just changed the oil... d'oh! although I can probably get away with changing only the oil and not the filter since it's been only 200mi). I put a speedo gear in just cause the tires and lift throwing off the speed drove me crazy lol.

But yeah... I really gotta do something about this Spectre air filtre. It's like a sin driving my TJ around with that thing on it!

TroutBumTJ ^^ x2

There's really no benefits to a CAI or a performance exhaust in the Jeep TJ. The stock air box and exhaust actually provides very adequate flow. Buy a stock air box and use the remaining money towards more important things like making sure the Jeep is properly tuned and all preventative maintenance is up to par. Just my $0.02 worth.

crushsteffy Really? A stock intake? Although, I never really did consider that by adding a snorkel a CAI won't really matter too much. I could probably find one at a junk yard for cheap(ish) and just buy the dang snorkel already! lol

gixxerphil I would buy a stock intake. It will hook up to the ARB snorkel, and CAI really don't do anything for you. I have a Banks CAI only because the PO had it on there

Newbie Jeeper shopping for CAI

Hi all, I'm totally a newbie in the Jeeping world and am currently loving it! I recently (ok, about a month ago) bought an awesome 98 TJ and have been toying with it nearly every day (I can't help myself!).

The guy I bought it from was the second owner- the first owner obviously was really into this TJ cause there are residue marks from where their snorkel was mounted (as well as various other bad-ass mods), which really has me wanting one! The only thing is, I'm not really looking for fork out the $600 for the whole Volant intake system initially (poor college student here), but I AM looking to at least get started- I've already been planting hints in the hubby's head for Christmas

The guy I bought my TJ from had taken off the stock intake "box," which I would have done anyways, but then actually had the nerve to put some cheap Spectre air filter on it! lol It does nothing for cooling and I'm guessing is just going to contribute to heat soak.

So I guess what I'm really asking is.... what do I buy for a CAI if I want to eventually get a snorkel but am wanting to go with something now that will cool that can eventually be "hooked up to" (for lack of a better term) snorkel?
