I know it's been about a year since this was posted, but Rancho is closed off now, but about 20 minutes up the road off 471 is the official green swamp. I've ended up in Clermont without even touching hard road before.

Thanks for the invite! I'll try to make it down. Are you guys going wheeling or just meeting up? If I can make it, my 5 yr old will want to go too. Do you have any kids in your group or is it just adults?

A run up to Croom

I'll have to check with my spouse, but I think next weekend (26 & 27Jan2013) is open as far as I know. How about we meet in Tampa close to I-275 and drive up to Croom. My son has coordinates for the sink hole I mentioned earlier. Bring a garbage bag so we can pack out the bottles, cans, plastic cups, etc that more-pig-than-human animals leave up there. There are four of us in this string. Could be a fun day or even just part of a day. Let me know!

Mawatkins Hi everyone!!
I'm a new jeep owner and just joined the forum, I saw you all were talking about Croom, I used to go and fourwheel there and camp, I would love to talk to someone about my jeep and possibly tag along on some trails. I have a 2009 Sahara, have had it about a week and LOVE IT!!

Rob309 Thanks for the response, I'm a new jeeper and would like to enjoy my new jeep to the fullest. I'm hoping to try and go up there two weeks from sat.

right out of the box

Hey, Brandonite -- yes, you can run most of the Croom trails in a Wrangler that is right out of the box as long as it isn't wet! There are some sandy spots, but should be no problem. If it is wet, better to have a winch or a group of two or more with a tow band, but that's part of the fun! Let me know what weekend day you're heading up there and I'll see if my son and I can join (not this weekend--Super Bowl!).

Rob309 Is there stuff at crooms to run a stock jk sport through?

Just in case you check in. Just N of Tampa and W of Floral City is the Holder Mine area. You can Google Holder Mine Florida to find out more. My son and I went up to an area just off I-75 called the Croom Wildlife Management area where they have trails for motor bikes, ATVs, and Jeeps. We took trail #9 to trail 8 to find some mature sink holes with enough erosion that you could drop over the edge and roar up the other side in lo-4 without so much of an ascent angle that you risked flipping over backward. One of the sinkholes was close to a hillock so you could climb up and then nose down for a run thru the trees to the sink hole. The base is mostly sand, so best if you have fat tires. I'm running 35" BFG All-Terrain T/As on 15x10 Pro-Comp wheels. We had a blast and no troubles. I read that you can get a ticket if you leave the numbered trails and take off thru the woods, so a word to the wise is sufficient. We're headed to Holder Mine area next!
