adayws6 I am planning to order my first wrangler in the next 6 months. I've been reading and researching on this forum - there is a lot of knowledge here. Thanks to everyone for your input!

The dual top group is something that I have been considering so this particular thread caught my eye. A couple of posters mentioned using a hoist to remove and install their hard tops. Has anyone considered mounting a pulley system to the ceiling of your garage/barn to aid in the installation and removal of the hardtop as well as possibly storing it this way?

My garage has a pretty high ceiling (probably 15 feet floor to ceiling) and I was considering this as an option as my floor space is a bit limited with mechanicals and work benches. Do you think this is feasible and would it harm the hard top in any way to store it suspended from the ceiling?

How do you use the hoist to remove the top? Are there contact points somewhere on the top?

The OEM top is made by Bestop, so if you are going to buy an aftermarket one I would go for the Bestop one, as its guranteed to fit well.

I have the OEM softop (we get the dual top option stock down here) and it fits and sits fine, is easy to fold back to Sunrider position and just as easy to drop completely. Once dropped its 4 bolts to remove completely.

I was in your town tonight, driving my wife's Grand Cherokee. There was some guy in a modded black 2-door JK (didn't catch if it was a rubi or not), driving like a moron, speeding, tailgating, weaving through traffic, cutting people off. cbboard i am planning on getting a 2012 rubicon unlimited soon. i am debating buying the factory dual top setup versus buying the truck with a hardtop and buying an aftermarket softop. do you guys have any recs? are the aftermarket tops any better? i am assuming they will be more expensive. thanks for any recs!

yomondo Hey neighbor! Burbank here. Welcome, and congrats on the new Jeep. I love that new tan color. I'm in your town pretty frequently. I'll be looking out for you. Don't forget to wave (especially to modded black 2-door rubi's ).

My Jeep is topless most of the year (except right now because it's raining!). I like having the factory soft top back there ready to pull over the top in the event of unexpected rain (which has happened to me a few times). I swap the hard top in every "winter" for a couple of months. Completely removing the factory soft top is pretty quick, just 4 screws, as InfernoGirl said. Putting on or removing the hard top requires another pair of hands or a hoist to do safely. It's all not that big of a deal unless for some reason you need to frequently swap back and forth between hard top and soft top.

theotis If you want to go back and forth easily, get a frameless soft top, such as the trektop nx and a hoist. 10-15 minutes for the soft top removal and/or installation (includes bracket and door frame removal). 10 Minutes for hardtop removal installation. Same time without a hoist, you just need to people able to lift 50 awkward pounds each and a place to store it. The trouble with the frameless is summer storage. With a framed you can fold the whole top back and when the weather changes you will have the top with you. Not that simple with the frameless, especially with a 2 door.

Hard Top to Soft Top Ease?

Hi,

New guy here - 2012 Unlimited Sahara in Sahara Tan. Loving my new Jeep. I've been looking at soft tops (Trektop, etc.) for use on the weekends and during the summer months (want protection from the elements when camping, or in general). However, I'd like to be able to go back and forth between the hardtop and soft top without having to get too crazy dissembling the soft top in order to put the hard top back on, etc. How difficult is it to go back and forth? Is it realistic to do this?
