Oilwell, you are correct it was a typo, the BFG's will be a 75 series sidewall, my bad.
As far as the spacers, that is exactly why I'm going to bring it home and drive it for the winter, then pop for new rims and tires in the spring.

Is 255/70/17 a typo? If not, why would you have the dealer install a smaller tire? And spend $250 on it for that matter.
For the cost of a BB and spaces you can buy a set of 15 or 16 inch wheels. Tires will be cheaper for those sizes as well and you have more size options.

|jonesy||I'm sure I could, but the stock rim on the 2012 Sport "S" is the same rim geometry as the Rubi rim, just a different paint color. So with the swap to the 255 BFG's, its essentially the same as Rubi take offs.|

Thanks for the replies guys. Here is what I came up with….
Upon delivery at the dealer, I will have them swap out the stock 255/75/17’s for BFG 255/70/17’s M/T, it will only cost me $250. I can drive it through the winter like this, then sell tires/rims in the spring, and go with proper 33’s.
I looked into running 285/70/17’s on stock rims, and would have to back space and do a BB lift. If I have to buy spacers and a BB lift to keep stock rims with 285’s I may as well do it right and run what I want. So in the spring it will get a 2” BB lift, 33” tires and new rims.
Now if the wife would make up her mind on color, I could go order the thing. She’s leaning toward Crush, which I think is awesome, but makes me nervous after reading all posts about delays.

As TanManRubi stated, upgrading your tires or wheels with the dealer is only going to empty your wallet. You can get infinitely better deals buying on your own then going through a dealership. Get your JKU and take it home. Remove the stocker wheels/tires and put em up for sale a.s.a.p. Buy bigger tires and better wheels and go get muddy.

I too have a 2012, about 2-weeks old!
Research this site (using the search feature) about larger tires!
1. Why do U really want them? Looks = $$$$$
2. Larger tires change the factory designed center-of-gravity
3. Larger tires should be installed by a 4x4 shop ONLY
4. Spin balance is wothhless (you need a road force balance or something like that)
5. Loss of power
6. Loss of mph
7. Will probably get fewer miles out of the larger tires
8. You may end up with the dreaded "Death Wobbel" (research this site)
If U really want to do TRUE Off-Roading, go bigger tires, otherwise put your $$ somewhere else!

My advise is to think about what you really want (and can afford).
The 2.5 Teraflex lift with 4.5" backspaced wheels will look sweeeet on the JKU. With stock wheels on the Teraflex lift, yes you will need to add spacers. Take a look at the Teraflex website or you can even see the 2.5 lift installed by Teraflex on their YouTube.
You need to think if its worth the extra money to upgrade basic wheels/tires with the dealer (I personally don't), or take the stock ones home save that money, then order the lift and wheels you really want. You can always sell stockers too to offset some of your costs.
Regarding the rubbing, i'm really not sure but hopefully you can get those answers from someone with more experience in that area.

|oilwell1415||My 285s on aftermarket wheels rub occasionally. Without a spacer on stock wheels you're probably going to have problems unless you do something else to prevent rubbing.|

Ordering my new 2012 JKU tomorrow, quick question??
I’m ordering my 2012 JK Unlimited tomorrow, the dealer will buy the stock tires or tires/rims if I want, price yet to be determined of course.
My initial thought was to just upgrade tires to the BFG 255/75/17 M/T, which will give me a little better off road and winter tire.
Then I got to thinking; what about a BFG 285/70/17 M/T on the stock rim. The 285 is only .65” taller and 1.18” wider than the 255. I’ve read a bunch of threads and believe this tire without wheel spacers or lift will NOT rub. Am I correct on this????
Also, I want to do BB lift to help level the ride height, will this help with clearance on the 285’s? Or will I need to backspace the rims? If so, I’ll just go with the Tereflex 2.5” lift, new rims with 4.5” backspace and a true 33x12.5” tire.
What do you guys think? I know this has been talked about a million times, and I have read the threads, and most deal with aftermarket rims. So any help would be appreciated.
