obidya If I've learned anything from my Grand Cherokee its this;
Its the better choice just to buy an existing exhaust kit or have a GOOD muffler shop do the work for you. I spent away too much time effort and money piecing a new system together myself....
granted it sounds amazing and I now know how to weld .. but still .. complete pain and by the time I was done it cost me about the same as a whole kit

Now that you mentioned it, yeah my jeep does sound like a damn minivan. I've been wanting to add a muffler since I got it. I was thinking of taking off the cat. Here in Fla. there is no emmission tests. I did that on my dakota awhile back. The insides rattled for about 6-months, then I just cut the sucker out and put in a test pipe in place. Made my exhaust a little deeper.

wrusty wrangler Well that solves that problem! Where'd you get it?

mudslinger150 So i went an bought a new Magnaflow cat, it comes with the cat then the pipe from the cat to the manifold. it was $118.00 shipped. now i have a new cat and cat back system, sweet.....

wrusty wrangler I would just get a cheap aftermarket cat with the same size piping and pipe clamp it on. If you have access to a welder, weld it on. You wont gain any performance with a hollow cat and if you dont do anything with the downstream o2s, you'll have the CEL on. I dont know if VT tests emissions, but it would fail in NY.

Doctor up Stock Cat. (new cat back system)

So im in FL on vacation! I was searching the i-net today and cam accross a great deal... autoanything.com i found a Banks Monster Exhaust for $269.00 shipped. didn't have to pay for shipping, and saved another $15 for ordering it over the phone, and it ship's directly from Banks in CA! Complete Stainless system, with polished muffler and tip. (cat back)

anyways

My stock cat has "the rattle". Its breaking apart on the inside and needs to be cleaned out.

Heres my thoughts

Im going to take off the old "cat back" system. Then i will cut off the cat, close to its seem. once i have the cat off i would just like to "punch it out", take a broom handle and chunk out the rest of the insides clean it right out.

Then i would get an adapter and clamp the cat back on, or should i unbolt the exhaust pipe just below the manifold, snake it out, weld the cat back on to it, bolt everything back up, then bolt up my new "Banks Monster Exhaust / Cat back System"

Should i weld or clamp, and also is this a good idea to do this to the cat, and if i unbolt the exhaust below the manifold will i need a new gasket when i bolt it back up? Has anyone came accross this type of thing? you had a new cat back exhaust system but needed to take off and repair the stock cat....

Thanks
