TXST8tj it may just be one of those jeep to jeep cases. the clamps on my factory hardtop fit flush over the header. so you don't have to continue taking the header off everytime you put the hardtop on and since you already have the screw holes drilled in place, while the header is off, just cut out that flat piece that goes around the clamp hole. you will end up with 3 pieces, but they will each just screw into place.

Hmm, maybe I did put it on wrong - I can't take a pic since I unscrewed the header to put on the hardtop, but the header is screwed on from the inside of the windshield, right? The clamps for the hardtop have to lay flush against the windshield frame, otherwise it won't fit. Now with the header they cannot lay flush against the frame, because the header is in the way... What am I missing?

Walkeraviator Sorry for the confusion.. guess i should proofread before posting... I do not have a hard top. It was a typo. However, my question has been answered. Thank you all for your help.

TXST8tj i had the drill type header/bikini, hard top and soft top on my previous TJ. the drill header did NOT get in the way of either hard or soft tops. my 'new' TJ came with a no drill header and it is 111x more complicated system to use. the drill style is great b/c it's always on. you just slide the bikini through the channel and strap it down at the rollbar.

catoct The drill in style header does get in the way with the hardtop, at least it did for me (maybe I installed it wrong ) You won't be able to fasten the clamps on the windshield, but you can drive around without them - temporarily, just the windnoise gets pretty high...

jjseel X2. Got the soft top, and the drill in header. Yup, had to drill holes. Nope, don't have to remove for soft-top. But it doesn't get in the way of anything I can see...

compshooter You are not clear in your post. You claim to have the hard top, but you later claim to go back to the full soft top in the winter.

I don't have a hard top, but here are my insights on the question:

Drill style header. I went this route for several reasons. 1. I'm not afraid to drill holes in my Jeep. 2. Military...move every couple of years....stuff gets lost. 3. Have to take off no-drill header to run full soft top, means storing the header also. 4. Drill style header does NOT interfere with soft top. 5. Cheaper.

These are just my reasons for doing a drill style header. As I said, I have no idea if it interferes with a hard top, but I would "guess" that it would not.

02Prove You have to drill holes in the windshield unless you get the "no drill header" type. To put the hard top back on you have to remove the header so the no drill type is better IMO.

LIL_red_JEEP I've got the same thing. I dont remember the part number off hand. but I have the Besttop header that didnt require drilling.

Bikini Header

I have a TJ with factory hard top. The bestop strapless bikini i want requires a drill in header. Now when I go back to the full soft top again next winter, how hard will it be to switch back? Does the Header screw into existing holes on the winshield frame? When i take the header off to run full top, will it leak or anything? I just want all the info I can get on the drill in headers.
