Jondalar I had mine replaced after seeing a coupon in the shopping paper. $99. I do see kind of a lot of cracked Wrangler windshields.

UnlimitedLJ04 extreme hot/cold cycles will crack windshields, especially if there is a chip or flaw in the glass. it's cold out, you turn on the defroster and crack...even if the sun hits it and warms the glass enough it can crack.

my windshield has had a crack for a few months now. came about due to existing chip + cold ambient temps + intense sunshine. where I live you can plan on replacing your windshield once a year and with a jeeps flat glass, it can be a challenge to get 12-18 months out of windshield...

commodore_dude Yeah, I had my first one crack on a cold morning with the defrost going full blast. Got a lovely little stone chip in the current one that I'm afraid will lead to a crack eventually, but at least my Jeep's garaged now so I don't really ever need the defrost...

x2--same type of thing last year my '04--State Farm replaced windshield for free. Bought Jeep in '04 first time it happened last winter.

IsaacTJ Thanks much for the replies.

I sure hope this isn't going to be the norm. Winter is just beginning.

notlost_nc Pulled mine out of the garage last April on a cool foggy day and watched a crack develop and grow to about 9" across with the defrost on. Cheap glass.

Cracked Windshield Issues?

Any thoughts or experiences on this? Here's the low down.

This occurred to my 2000 TJ equipped with a factory hardtop.

I left for work this morning at approx 3:40 AM. The temperature was about +26 F. I cleared a thin layer of frost from the windshield. There was about 1" of snow/ice on the hardtop. My breath caused the inside of the winshield to fog over. I turned on the defroster and it quickly cleared off. I switched the blower to the floor. I didn't warm the Jeep up for any longer that it took to clear the frost and get settled in. Drove about 10 minutes to the interstate at 25-30 MPH. There was very little traffic on the interstate so I ambled along at about 60 MPH. After about 10 minutes the windshield cracked just to the right of the rearview mirror from top to about half-way down. The road was very smooth and clear of snow and ice.

I've only owned this TJ since August. Prior to that I had a 97 TJ and never had this occur even through the double blizzards the east coast had back in 2010.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
IsaacTJ
