KaiserJeep My 2003 has been making that same noise with the transmission in Neutral for 10 years, and it does change with the clutch in or out, so I think it is related to the throwout bearing somehow.

I only have 49,650 miles on mine, but it does not seem to be getting any worse, my warranty is gone, and I certainly don't think I would pay for service until I actually have a problem.

WJason I know I'm reviving an old one here, but this is the first with a video that has a similar sound as my 04 TJ tranny. I am guessing it's "normal", as nobody has commented on this, and since someone else has a similar sound. I just feel like it's gotten louder since I had the clutch replaced a few months back. Or maybe it's just because I can actually hear it, with the addition of my hard top? I remember reading about a kerosene flush and MTL helping? Or was that for another issue?

Uploading it to photobucket or YouTube would work best then give us the link.

Does it sound like marbles rolling around when you're in neutral? I've been told that's noise is the input shaft spinning.

6InARowMakesItGo the nv3550 is very noisy when idling in neutral. it's actually the flywheel. lot's of people think there is something wrong when it's actually just normal noise. please do post that video so we can be sure.

Transmission noise, 03 TJ

I have a 2003 TJ, 4.0, 5spd, that has a noise that sounds like it is coming from the transmission. The only time i notice it is when i am usually at idle and stopped. The noise gets a little bit quieter when i push my clutch in but not a huge difference.

I also still have a powertrain warranty still and don't' know if something like this would be covered or not?

Any advice you guys can offer would be great!
