nicolas-eric 50% more. it would be 3000 RPM.

Darton OK but with lower gears i.e. 4:11 or 4:56 wouldn't the rpm's be higher? Like say 60mph in 6th gear with 3:07 gears at 2000rpm would be 4000 rpm's in 6th gear with 4:56 gears right?

AzTJ He means you don't want to over gear so that when you are in 6th your RPM won't be too low that it does nothing.

Explain this statement. I'm sorry I don't speak freaky deaky dutch

nicolas-eric the difference between 3.07 and 4.56 is about 50%. the RPM will be about 50% higher after regearing. you´ll be able to use your 6th gear again. now the RPM in 6th gear should be that low that you cant hold the speed at highway speed.
and your gas mileage will become better.

when you regear you should think about installing some lockers. the time you need for installing it is nearly the same.

Darton With 4:56's would I still be ok on the hwy in 6th gear? (would the rpm stay prety low for hwy driving?)
12-17-2007 07:45 PM
4Jeepn 4.56's would take you from a 33:1 to a 49:1 crawl ratio which would help great deal. (assuming with the 6spd your 1st gear is 4:1)

Darton How hard is it to swap out gears? Is it something I'd want a pro to do or can a shade tree do it??
12-17-2007 07:19 PM
Darton my 307's with 33's the 6cyl and 6spd manual SUCK!!!
12-17-2007 06:22 PM
AzTJ Serious? My 3.07's with 32's ain't bad at all... but I have an auto so that might be the reason, even though its a 3-speed.
12-17-2007 06:10 PM
mrbigjeep mine did and they suck.

i want some 4.56's with my 32's.
12-17-2007 05:46 PM
AzTJ Did the 6-speeds really come with 3.07's?
12-17-2007 05:41 PM
1BLKJP They sure aren't helping you any in 4wd or on big inclines.
12-17-2007 05:39 PM
nicolas-eric 4.10 or 4.56 if you want to go bigger in the future.

Stock gears

The stock 307 gears are probably why my Jeep stalls out so much when i'm climbing, right?? A 410 should work alot better???
