Speakers in sound pods - maximum size?

I've decided on Polk Audio Mobile Monitors for my 2003 TJ. 5 1/4 in the dash (using 4x6 inch to 5 1/4 inch adapter plates). For the sound bar (pods in my case) I have heard you can actually get 6.5's to fit. Is this true...I want the 6 3/4 inch Polk mobile monitors there vs the 5 1/4 but I don't want to get them and then find that they don't fit. Crutchfield of course says they don't but I seem to remember folks saying they will (but with what modifications?)
