98straight stainless Just an update I spoke with a mechanic friend and after looking at it he said it was the through out bearing and that the noise was there in all the gears just notas noticeable he also pointed out that it does it in neutral while sitting still until you disengage the clutch. I am going to replace the clutch I will let you know if it solves the issue

Oldguy I think you should talk to a transmission shop and soon. What you describe sounds like broken teeth on one of the gears, and it will only get worse and cause more damage the longer you wait.

98straight stainless It sounds like when the gears don't engage but it runs out fine other than the noise.

Transmission noise in first and third

My 1998 jeep started the other day making noise when i shifted into first or third but not in the other gears i changed the fluid in my tranny but it did not change the noise. Has anyone run across this before?
