82shortbox I just did mine two weeks ago,spent all day under the jeep. Sounds like you need to bleed the clutch just like brakes. If you have air in the system the petal will be soft and you will not have a good petal, just like air in the brake system. When mine was leaking (hydraulic throw out bearing) I would have to pump it up just to get it to shift and the resevoir would always be low.

did my own clutch and throw bearing in my 89 yj

it sounds like they didn't line up the clutch plates
there is a tool (key) that lines up all the clutch plates just befor you slide the tranny in if the back one did not line up it could be binding the shaft giving you the sticky then lose peddle
also did they replace the needle bearing in the engine housing they are a Bit!@ to change but it should be changed when replaceing the clutch the shaft relise on this for alignment and it comes with most new clutch kits
mine grabes as soon as my foot leaves the foor
how are your peddle bushings !! something to cheak but i think you probleam is in the new clutch i would have the installer check it befor you cause any damage to it just my thought

debruins temp shouldnt be a factor, i dont know if there is an adjustment to fix that, i would post over in the YJ seciton as you ahve a YJ and not a CJ and not many people check the CJ seciton

89 Wrangler Clutch

Clutch recently went out on Wrangler. Had new throw-out bearing, clutch plate installed. It went out again, and they replaced clutch master cylinder. Now, for the first 4-5", the clutch is "limp", and then is stiff the short distance to floor board. It does not shift as smoothly as it did. Any suggestions? Is this normal because the clutch plate or bearing are thicker than the old one (like a new brake pad) and will eventually loosen up? It is below 0 in Illinois, and is that a factor? Or is something not right? Thanks
