guage problems

newbie here. Just got my first jeep. 1988 YJ. The gauges don't work, only thing that does is the speedometer. I've read a few of the posts about cleaning them so i figured i would give that a try. Only thing is now that i have the gauges out i can't figure out how to get the black connectors on the back off, i don't know if they twist like the lights. I've tried but either there stuck or thats the wrong way and i don't want to break them. Any help would be great.
