cr wrang I also just bought a Tj with this same set-up. I think I am going to have to agree that this will be going to the junk pile.

Mine is all rusted and scaling, but my jeep is not at all rusty, in fact it is pretty darn clean for 12 years old.

I just keep thinking of this thing dropping my 33" on the road, and causing an accident

It is for reasons like those that I continue recommending against Smittybilt's Chinese-built crap, much to the chagrin of some of the Smittybilt defenders around the forum.

darkproximity Its unfortunate bulletproof mfg from back in the day went out of business, i bought a rear swing out from a friend of mine that was on a built TJ he bought for the rear axle, and part out the rest as much as possible.. the bumper has to be at least 6+ years old, and doesn't make any noises, is very stout and has a 3 gallon air tank plumbed into it..

the problem with the smitty carriers is how they weld the swing out arm onto the bumper, they need to weld through to the bottom of the bumper but it appears as though its just welded on the top surface of the bumper instead.

smittybilt tire carrier - Google Search

Smittybilt is popular because its affordable but not really known for high quality. I have no experience with them, just what I have read here. Maybe some actual owners will chime in.
