I did mine a few months ago (actually on my 2000 TJ and 1996 ZJ) and like slasher said, its pretty straightforward. I think the only thing I labeled were the spark plug wires on my 96 ZJ--everything else it's pretty clear where it goes, but you may want to label just in case.
The lower manifold bolts are a pain and I found they were much more difficult on my TJ than my ZJ. To get them out, you can get them from the top (by being creative), but to put them back in, I had to go underneath and snake my arm around.

|s14sh3r||The hardest part of the whole thing is those damned lower manifold bolts. The rest of it is pretty straightforward. If you're not familiar with where everything goes, it's a good idea to label all the wires and hoses. You don't set the lash on these, you just torque the rocker arms. I just changed mine last week. If you don't have one, I recommend getting a factory service manual. .You can get one from jeepslimited.com. Register and you have access to the downloads section.|

Need to change my 4.0 head NEED INFO
new here and have a '99 with the 4.0
i have rebuilt engines before but need to know what i need to know or if there are any how to's etc
never worked on a 4.0 before so things such as valve lash...things to look out for..or anything else would be helpful
