Exactly what happens to me!! I pass about 15 Jeeps coming and going from my boring 45 minute commute every day. I'm going to start MAKING them not see my wave. Now, if they don't acknowledge me, it will be because they think I'm friggin nuts, not just because they think they're better than me. Should take care of the boring part at least...

I gotta say, I respect a Jeeper that takes care of his rig more than one that lets it turn into a rust bucket.

1. Don't wave across multiple lanes. Jeep wave seems to be for a regular rd with 1 lane of traffic in both directions. If you wave across a 6 lane highway going 70 mph, dont expect a wave back.

2. Only wave at oncoming jeeps. Don't waste time with the jeep in the rearview mirror or coming up on the side of you.

3. Look closely for just a little hand movement off the steering wheel. A lot of jeepers go the cool-guy route and only give a slight hand movement...dont expect arms waving back and forth like you are a long lost relative.

4. Give the benefit of the doubt. Jeep guy you waved at scratched his nose? That's a return wave.
Soccer mom slaps her kid? Thats a return wave.
Old fella looks at you like you have 3 heads? He was just startled and could not react in time to get his hand up...that counts too

5. Finally, don't be a wave snob. Wave at ALL wranglers...many JKUs wave back. And, make a real effort to have your wave seen, go out the window if necessary.

Thanks for your post! Great info, esp. #4 and #5. Around here, peeps will still wave across multiple lanes. I'll wave back if I happen to catch them waving, but I'm usually watching out for all of the crazy-ass little cars switching lanes like it's the Daytona 500.

I've always wanted a Jeep as long as I could remember. I'm glad the JKU came out. For me, the 2-door was not practical as a DD, seeing as how I have 3 huskies to haul around. But someday I plan on getting a 2-door for $hit$ and giggles!

One of these days I'm gunna bust a u-ey and follow someone to their parking spot, reach in, grab their hand and make them wave. Then make them feel like complete douchebags for making me douchebag them. Might sound aggressive but I bet they'd think before blatantly ignoring the next guy that waved. Never underestimate the power of shock value.

My db of a salesman never said anything to us about the wave...we just figured it out on our own...we have a Sea Doo, and my ex rode a Kawasaki (boaters and bikers wave to one another) so when the Wrangler drivers started waving, I'd just wave back. I didn't find out until I joined the Forum that it's a Jeep thing! sometimes it makes my day to get the wave, especially if I had a bad day at work

I got the "Hummer" like because the dratted 2 door can't tow 3500lbs. Now being a full time RVer, I carry a lot of stuff, in and on my JKUR and r-Pod trailer. My Jeep has about $7k in mods and I wheel like crazy. When I was younger, I owned a Wagoneer and Cherokee. I guess you would talk smack about that too. :-) I don't understand why any one would want a Jeep that porpoises down the road. My 4 door is long enough to ride fairly well on the road. Everyone has different needs than you do. And yes, YMMV

I got mine because i always wanted a scrambler and they dont make them anymore. I held out for a couple years hoping they would. When my jeep is older, i want to do the conversion, which would be totally badass and not hummerlike at all.....

And then i would get waves galore
04-09-2014 03:20 PM
RodtheRebel I might miss a wave here and there, but my daughters will be waving. They make a game of it and try to see who gets the most waves. My wife always lets me know how much of a d!ck I am when I miss one.
