jrivejeep just noticed the soft top is all taped up on one side. doesn't seem like a deal breaker as the interior looks near perfect. maybe offer 8000 since it has the rear 1/4 panel damage and a slashed top?

2004 Used Jeep Wrangler X at First Texas Honda Serving Austin Texas, TX, IID 8361483


It's decentish mileage, black interior and stick shift like I want, and I'm going to see if I can get it for 8500 or 9000. I'm kind of concerned with the damage to the rear right quarter panel

It looks purely cosmetic and could be covered with black diamond plate armor from Q-tech. What do you guys think?

Agreed. But if you do go the dealership route, know how to play the game. If you feel only slightly screwed when you leave you probably got a decent deal. At the end of the day they are a business looking to make money but one of the few businesses where negotiating can still land you a good maybe even great deal. I bought my lj from price Leblanc in baton rouge and got a great deal. Also, if you finance, finance elsewhere and don't tell them till the end. Itll lower the price because they figure if they don't get you on mark up they will get you on financing.

SurfKaster Unless you just gotta, I'd avoid a dealership altogether. Not saying you can't find a good deal there, but the house is stacked against you. If you do go that route then don't trade in as you will always take a beating.

Option A is your best bet. Take your time, sell your car, & if possible by from a private seller. You always save $$$ taking out the middle man.

jrussblues Also, never let on that the jeep is the only vehicle you want. At least pretend that it is one of a few options you are considering, and that value is your top priority.

jrussblues Also...if you leave the dealer empty handed, you will be amazed how quickly you get calls back and how quickly the price drops to your range.

They want 12999 which means they prob paid 7500
Offer 9k when they say that's not going to happen then leave the rep your number and tell him "well let me know when you are interested in making a deal".
The next part, which is most important, is that you leave...unless of course he accepts the offer.

Dealerships snag up jeeps pretty cheap at auction because they will sell. It's easy money.
On your side...they can still make money off of the jeep at 9, and even if that's break even then they can make it off of your trade. You have to use that knowledge to your advantage. Also, dealers have to insure every vehicle on the lot, so quick turnover of inventory is important as every month reduces potential profit margin.

What you have to ask yourself. If you get low balled on trade in but get 3-4k off of the price...won't you still be in the same place financially?

dabolt55 Isn't strange how when it's on there car lot, it retains it's value, but not if you bring yours to them...???????? Stealerships get under my skin..

Agreed BayouBengal.

I went and looked at one at robinson bros ford today and test drove it. I was the whole darn time I was driving it! Unfortunately they lowballed the shiz out of me on trade in value. They offered me 4500 for my 07 mazda 6 which I baby!

I'm debating on putting an ad up on CL to get a more fair price. I didn't realize the dealers would try to stick it up my butt so bad on the TIV. I haven't looked in MS yet so I'll check them out. I'm in no rush to get one....ok maybe a little rush ... but i'm gonna be patient and see what else is out there. I hear after summer/fall time prices drop because not many people like driving jeeps in the cold apparently

BayouBengal Always good to have a Tiger here on WF....I picked up mine from Brian Harris on Airline, look around and you can find tons of jeeps for good prices between Biloxi and Houston. Just wait for the one you want it will pop up eventually

Opinions please? I'm mainly concerned with what may be wrong with the jeep but if you guys think it's a good deal then I'll call them tomorrow to see about seeing it.

You will get your best jeep prices in Louisiana. Since your at lsu it works out. I got my lj from a dealer at 4k below blue book. Plus if you get a Louisiana jeep there's not going to be as many problems with rust given that we don't salt our roads. You do have to check for mud in the undercarriage. If its clean in the nooks and crannies then you don't have to worry as much about driveline problems.

dabolt55 Maybe check for rust issues, maybe it was in a flood, under frame, engine compartment,under carpet areas, basically any signs that you may think was recovered or treated on. The mechanic issues are always true, as stated above ^^. Also there are lots to choose from, take your time and you will know when the right one is for you. Lot's of us even traveled outside our own states to find one.....good luck..

Crazyflyingplastics 9600 is about what the jeep should go for. I paid 10500 for a 2005 x with 82,000 this january. Manual transmissions are usually cheaper than automatics, at least in my experience with jeeps. The msrp of 15,000 makes no sense.

x2 on having a mechanic look at it. Any dealer should be ok with that. If they aren't, walk away very fast.

Frenz tell the seller how much you want his jeep... but I've hired a mechanic to look it over and my decision will be based on his opinion. actually find a mechanic and tell him that you want him to look over what ever your buying. best insurance money can buy $50-$65. and they are absolutely gonna fine tooth comb that thing. only takes an hour and you just armed yourself with enough info to lower the price much more than you paid out. OR You buy the Jeep knowing full well that you made your best deal. also you can call 877 I AM Jeep.. with the vin #.. they will give you a free history. you'll need the vin # to insure it anyway.

div4gold I know ya can get anxious when you are looking for the Jeep that fits but there are a lot of them to choose from. If you can get by without a vehicle for a couple of weeks then I'd sell the car and go shopping with the cash in hand. A Dealer will always go for at least $500. less than listed price. That's enough for a few mods Also if you have a Jeep buddy or mechanic have them to check it out . I just walked away from a really nice looking Jeep after the test drive. Checked back with the Dealer a week later and they said nothing was wrong with it and hadn't done anything to it. Al least with that one you could tell by driving it that there was a major problem in the drive train. A mechanic also took a drive with me and confirmed that there was a significant vibration coming from the drive train. Just be careful and take your time. A Dealer can make a bummer look good.

edit: Also take the word of the salesman like a grain of salt. If you really look around you can find some nice Jeeps with low mileage in your price range if you are willing to fly and drive home. Good luck and tell us what you finally got

Well fellas I've been lurking for a while on this and other jeep forums while I look for my first jeep. I'm a college guy (sr at LSU) and currently drive a 2007 mazda 6 that my parents got me back in high school because gas was around 4.25/gal and I had to drive 35 miles one way to school every day..

BUT i've been wanting a jeep for a looooooong time and I may have found one.
