Question about treating rusty frame

Hey there just bought a 02 Wrangler that is starting to show its age with a bit of rust on the frame and a few other locations. I dropped the xfer case guard and ground down all the loose rust from the frame and any other visible areas. After this i was going to degrease the undercarriage and then apply some por 15. I was told that it is a good idea to put the chassis protectant over top of the por 15 to protect it from the uv light etc. My question is....would it be overkill to them spray on a undercarrige protectant like 3m etc on top of the paints or is this an unnecessary step? This is my first time doing something like this and if Im doing something wrong please some let me know before I finish my project
