Next time try turning the key to ON for a few seconds then turn it off, then turn it on again and try to start. If it fires right up then it's some sort of fuel priming issue. When you turn the key ON, the pump will prime the lines.
Could be fuel filter (cheap and easy). Could be the pump though generally speaking, when a pump goes, it just goes.. And if it were pump I'd think you'd notice symptoms other times than starting..

Start up Problems
Hey guys I got a 2000 Jeep Sahara, 4.0, automatic. Recently the jeep isnt starting on the first crank. I turn the key and it will try to fire up for a a few seconds, I release the key and then do it again and it fires up right away. Now it only does this when its cold. If I were to turn it off it would fire up right away. I was thinking maybe it has something to do with the fuel pump? I mean the starter is working and I have power so I ruled out all that. All I can think of is the fuel pump or something to do with the fuel pressure. If anyone has experience with this or knows whats going on I would appriciate any help. Thanks guys!
