Installing replacement subwoofer

Help - Trying to replace the original, factory-installed subwoofer on my 2002 Wrangler Sport. I removed the bolts from the center console but cannot separate the inner box from the outer casing to access the speaker. Also, do I need to disconnect the wiring from the box to replace the speaker? Thanks!
