New to fourm question about starting issue

It seems when i turn the key forward it takes about 5-6 seconds before anything happens {start} no noise no cranking i have juice to gauges etc
when key is forward.
Wondering if it might be the neutral safety switch because if i pump the clutch pedal before it seems better.
on another note have some low squeking noise that stops if i depress the cluth pedal in ????
Thanks for the help.
