TM98 What are people running for factory Sahara wheels in 18"?
I see a lot about 17" and aftermarket 18" but not factory ones.

sure you can sipe used tires. That is what I am looking to do if I can find a set for a decent price. I love my toyos for all around but looking to save some wear on them over the winter months..

birddogn Can we still sipe these when they have 8K on them? Not sure on that. I have had several sets of both the Goodyears and the Coopers. I have the Coopers on my Dodge Powerwagon and they have been great. I had a set of 315/75/16's on my lifted Duramax that were studded. The deal is we were going to go with a dedicated winter/other set of tires and wheels. The tire store suggested we get the Duratracs over the Coopers if we don't stud them. They don't see that many customers have two sets of tires, so they suggested the Duratracs for year round use. My plan was to get the Coopers and stud them and then get the Goodyears and another set of wheels for the summer. Anyway that's kind of the deal right now.

yes but it were me I would go with your original cooper choice. you could sipe your stock tires and they do well. I am looking for a set of stock take offs to sipe for the winter.

Thanks for the help. I was going to go with 255/80/17's Cooper's but the tire store suggested the Wranglere DuraTrak's in 285/70/17. Just looking at options for a better winter tire than the KM's that came on it.

willbarrow81 Yes, I put 285/70/17's on my 2010 jk sport with no lift. It only touched when it was at full lock and even then it was very minor. So good luck!

birddogn Quick question, will Goodyear DuraTracs in 28570/17 fit on a stock Rubicon X ok? Sorry I cheated and didn't go back and read the whole thread.

MichiganMan I am looking at putting some BF Goodrich All Terrains to replace my stock 255/75/17 goodyears. What size A/T will fit on the stock 17 inch rim? also, if several of the A/T sizes will fit, How big can I go with the stock outfit?

Some don't think they are safe. Others think your wheel is more likely to fail before spacers. I don't see a problem with them and plan on using them when the BFGs wear out. I'm a rare fan of the Rubicon rims.

I have read the entire post twice I have a 2012 unlimited sport i dont want to change rims at this time and they do not make the Dura Trac in the 255/80/17 which according to the 1st post is the largest you can run with out changing wheels or adding spacers. I have seen multiple people say they wont run spacers just curious as to why

Airborne_82 I just bought some Cooper Discoverer A/T3™ LT275/70R18s. I'm hoping they won't rub. The specifications say they are 11.1" in width. Taking the chance to see what happens. I was may just go ahead and get the TeraFlex 2.5" lift to compensate for the rubbing, that is if it happens.

Mine do stick out about an inch. Maybe 1/4 inch of tread and 3/4 inch of sidewall bulge. Disconnected at full flex the articulation causes them to tuck in under the fender. That is also at full turn.

I would say whatever you do have a backup plan, whether that's flat fenders, lift, leveling kit, jigsaw, etc. I came across others who worked with my combo, so I went for it. My backup plan was a small leveling kit to get by until I add a full lift.

kable Well I went to Discount Tire today and they did some price matching for me, and I ordered some Rugged Ridge 17x9" wheels with 4.53" backspacing and BFG KM2s 285/70r17s. My Rubicon so far and I'm hoping to get lucky and they won't rub offroad when I disconnect, but I'm not optimistic.

Saying they do rub, performance wise (on and off road) am I better off with a lift kit, maybe a TaraFlex Performance leveling kit, or some flat fenders? I imagine, the fenders would be better, to keep my center of gravity lower, and with 33" tires the the ground clearance would stay the same, so is there any reason to prefer the lift kit over the flat fenders? Also I have to say I love the stock ride on road with my 2013 Rubicon and it seemed pretty capable in Ouray with the stock 32s, so my instinct is to mess with things as little as possible.

Guys I am having a hard time making a decision, heres my dilemma:

You have 5.2 of BS on a 285 wide tire and it doesnt stick out.
I just came back from Discount Tire and they put on a XD Crank 5" BS on a 275/70/18 tire and it stuck out past the fender probably at least 3/4 of an inch. I would think that with the 275 tire it would stay flush with the fender.
-Also if I go with that size any issues with rubbing?
-If I am understanding this correct 0 offset is 5" BS and -12 offset is 4.5"BS(XD Monsters I was considering) and the 4.5 would be 1/2 an inch further outside the fender than the 0 offset.
-Can anyone offer any insight?
Sorry for all the questions, I just want to get it right. Not everyday I spend 2k on wheels and tires.

Looks to me like at 5.2 backspace they barely fit. With 4.5" backspace, disconnected, the tires would stick out further and maybe rub. I hope I'm wrong cause most of the rims I like have 4.5" of backspace.

Naturally, that will depend on the width of the tires, but my memory seems to tell me about an inch.

Plenty of folks have pics up in the numerous wheel threads. I'm sure a search will yield the combination of wheels and tires for reference.

As far as inspections, that depends on your state regs and the particular place you get inspected.

In PA, I remember the regulation stating the "tread" needs to be covered. The DuraTrac's tread wraps to the sidewall, so that creates a gray area open to different interpretations.

Thing to remember about the tread sticking out past the fenders is what happens with snow/mud/etc... It gets flung up on the side of your Jeep/door handles. Some forget about that until they have to deal with the mess.

4.5 will stick out past the fenders more. I like the 5.2 of AEV's backspacing personally, or the 4.7 found on Quadratec's Moabs, but many here run closer to 4".

No. With aftermarket wheels having less back spacing (~4.5" inches is what most shoot for), you'll be fine.

AngryRaul Anyone think a 295/70/18 (34.57 in.) will fit without rubbing fender (No Lift, No Off-road)? Have XD wheels with 4.5 in. backspacing? I have seen that the 275/70/18 (33.62 in.) works. Just looking to possibly stretch it without lifting? Thanks in advance.

Anyone running a 5 inch back spacing?

So everything is telling me run a 4.5" back spacing on my 17x9 wheel with a tire that is 285/70/17 or 33x12.5x17. I do not plan to lift my 2014 Willys 2door, but will probably level the rake off of it with coils or spacers after I choose a bumper to go with later on. Problem that I have is my tire dealer guy(and life long friend) is strongly recommending I use a 5inch back spacing. I do not want to do any metal(frame) trimming but have no issues with tweaking the plastic stuff. I know the easy answer is..."slap on some wheel spacers if there is a problem", but I refuse to use those. So basically, is anyone running 33s on 17x9 with a 5inch back spacing on a stock JK and what mods have you made to anything for clearance?
