Sueby Hey Jimbo - do you have shock mount skids? They seem to take such a beating and I'm wondering if skidding or moving them isn't a bad idea. I thought I had read somewhere that you skidded them maybe?

JIMBOX You can never have "too many" skid plates and the additional weight won't affect the the JKU, although it will affect the JK a little-

Sueby I decided on the River Raider set. Jason from Krawl got me a really nice price on the complete set, with the evap skid too. I just have to get the nerve up to tell him to do it.

I could have used them yesterday:

strider_mt2k Installed my Rugged Ridge front skid plate yesterday.

Very impressed with the quality of the steel and the welds on this piece.
Instructions were clear and the hardware set was complete.

The only snag if you want to call it that, is that there is no hole in the passenger side front crossbar for one of the two front mounting bolts.
I'll be drilling, priming a hole there and installing the last bolt some time today before I wash her up and find a place to take some glamor photos so I can show her off to you folks right and proper.

As for underbody skids, I like these bad boys (in the photos they're red, but they come in black only for the JK's), especially the $399 price tag:

The price is nice on the EVO system! I'll have to add them to the list. The $800 was a bit of a shocker at first but didn't seem too bad when I started looking around at doing them individually, I really like the idea of the complete system. I'm kinda just dreaming at this point now anyway.

I see. I'm not familiar with PS evap skid, and it might be a great solution. But the online description says it moves it 3/4" (plus the thickness of the skid). Mine is about 2-1/2 feet further to the rear, right above the rear diff, and about 10 or 12 inches higher. I think it would be virtually impossible for a rock to be thrown into that area. You might want to consider that Wolf; it's in a much better location. It think it's a much-better solution. I think several companies make one. It moves it but not tucked up like a real relocation. Check out the Pure Jeep one. It relocates and skids.

Sueby I think I'm going with oil & tranny first (someday down the line). Not sure what to do with the evap - skid or relocate...

I was also looking at the river raider complete system (or the Poly) - it's gas tank skid, oil pan skid, transmission skid, and transfer case skid. Anyone have any opinions on this? It seems like a good idea to me as sometimes mixing and matching doesn't always work well and it covers the important parts - 4 skids for $800.

RoobyRoo Chance you will be fine with the stock skids is very good. But it only takes one stray rock or stump and your oil pan or cooler line or diff is busted and you are getting a tow, and in the end paying way more in money and frustration than if you had just put the skids on to begin with. I could still get unlucky and be walking but with extra skids my chances of having a day ending issue are lower. Plus I feel more confident and have more fun.

wrangler0 Unless you're planning on doing some real hardcore rock crawling, the stock skids should be fine for now...

Mine have taken a beating and are still holding up fine....

ranjr If it's an Auto then you need something to protect the transmission cooler line that runs exposed under the transmission. It's just waiting to be tore off.

Daniel_M You don't "need" any skid plates for off road. I think the 2012's come with more skids than previously but could be wrong. If your evap cannister isn't skidded, that would be my first one, then after that LCA skids, t-case, whatever you want. Look at Rock Hard 4x4, River Raider and Asfir for skidding purposes.
