I know what you are thinking and I can't believe it either, but I am scared to death I won't be able to get it back on and secured enough that it won't look right or it will start to leak. I have watched the Jeep instructional video that they sent to all '07 Jeep owners, but I drive this Jeep everyday and don't want to be on my way to work getting wet while it is raining or having unbearable road noise.

Does anyone have any fool-proof ideas on what I can do to make me less afraid of doing something wrong? It's starting to get nice in upstate NY and I really want to drive with the top down.

Any suggestions or advice for me? I appreciate your tips.
Sell it and buy a hard top vehicle.

soupy1957 Call your local Dealership and ask if they would walk you through the steps on one they have there.

My Dealership and others, offer actual classes at the Dealership, and then there is always the link that's been posted in here, on the Chrysler website, that tells how the 08's come down. I'm sure it is very similar..

Eman10 Thanks everyone for you help and kind words. I think I will have enough confidence to try this next weekend. It should be warm and sunny by then! I think I will still be scared s*&^less when I am undoing it though.

dj_chizzle first of all, i can't believe you've owned your jeep over a year and haven't had the top down yet!

j/k

i was nervous the first time i did it too. just to be on the safe side, do it on a day when the weather is really nice so you have all day to practice if necessary. before you do it, make sure the sun has had a chance to warm up the fabric first so it will be easier to work with as colder fabric is stiff and does not want to cooperate. not trying to be a smart ass, but do you know how to take your side windows off? you have to remove them completely to put your top down. if you have never had them off, that can be a tricky part too getting the zippers of the side windows aligned when you are trying to put them back on. after taking your side windows off and rolling up your rear window (or remove it completely if you prefer to avoid scratches), it's just a matter of undoing a few latches and the top will fold back naturally. just tuck the fabric neatly into the back of your jeep and you are good!

honestly, it just takes practice. yes it can be intimidating the first couple of times and like me you may feel like the world's biggest dork trying to wrestle with your top but it does get easier.

good luck!

p.s. here is a video someone posted of themselves taking down their soft top. you will go slow and probably look very similar to this guy in the beginning.

giddyup I just picked mine up a few weeks ago and can't wait to take the hardtop off and pop the soft top on. I agree, practice makes perfect and you KNOW warmer weather is just around the corner.

If you have a good relationship with the sales person, see if they'd be willing to show you how the soft top operates on a slow day for them. If you have to tip them for the extra guidance, I'm sure it will be worth the helpful tips if it builds your confidence.

Good luck!

EUGENE I just just got my 08 JK at the end of april and I've already had the top down. Its really simple. I never got a video or anything to help me out, just read the manual and I did just fine. It goes right back up (though its handy to have a second person there). If you have trouble with the zippers try getting zipper wax. I heard it helps. But Really you have nothing to worry about. Its a JEEP its in its nature to have the top down ^_^
