|LiveAndLearn||Can anyone give some insight on this? I'm having the same problem. Oil everywhere. Replaced the seal that's in the tranny, didn't replace the one on the transfer case, because I thought the seal on the transfer case doesn't have anything to do with tranny fluid? Am I wrong?|

ax15 Transmission Leak
I have a 1999 tj wrangler with an ax15 transmission (5 speed, manual, 6 cyc). I've done a lot of research/reading threads on leaking transmissions and pretty sure I have it nailed down to what's wrong. My rear output transmission seal and the input transfer case seem to be leaking. It was hard to tell because it was very oily everywhere, but I think it was coming from the weep hole in the adapter housing.
I've already taken the transfer case off and I can see the two seals ... the transmission one seems ok (but I'll replace anyways) and the transfer case seems to have a dent in it (you can see from the picture I took) ... I would think this is what's causing the leek.
So my question is this: Could it be leaking from anywhere else besides those two seals? I ask because in-between the adapter housing and the transmission (where the metal sides both meet) there is a bead of orange sealant all the way around. I took a youtube video of it (Ax15 - YouTube). I think the PO may have taken these two apart (may be).... for what, I don't know??? Is there a seal/gasket between the adapter housing and the trans? Can oil actually leak from it? There doesn't seem to be any gashes in the metal on those surfaces ...If there is one and it needs to be replaced, how difficult is it to take it off? I'm pretty sure it's coming from the weep hole and therefore one of the two seals ... but I don't want to put the whole thing back together again and find out it was something else. Thanks in advance ...
