Chico1970 Have you done the gear change yourself?? How envolved is it!! I'm having a hard time finding anyone who would want to do it!

Chico1970 Thanks for all the reply's and info. I think I'm gonna hold out until the Bloomsburg show coming in July and ask around. I really don't take mine off road that often, too much $ invested. I just need to get out of 2nd gear going up hills. I'm sick of having to put on the four ways!!!!!

darkproximity I agree that gearing matters, but 4.56s with 35s is fine, and is a good mix for highway and wheeling.. Sure everyone recommends 4.88s for 35s on the i6 with a 5 speed behind it, and I'd say do some research, do some calculations, etc.. If you're paying to regear do it once and be sure its what you want

I H8RDS It's a personal preferenece..and really depends on what you're actually doing with your Jeep. Fire roads or heavy rock crawling. It makes a difference.

Lol I was fine with 3.73s and 35s.. And now i'm on 4.57 and 4.56 and 35s.. I'm fine with both.. The OP has a motor with power as do I..

I love how everyone goes around saying 'you're gonna hate x gears with y sized tires' I actually saw a "prominent" member of this forum say that to someone else about my old gear/tire combo.. Well I sure didn't hate it, got around fine.

Assuming a Dana 44? If you're not running a Dana 44 in the rear on 35's, it's probably just a matter of time before you snap it. (depending on how hard you wheel)

Assuming the above, I'd go 4.88 gears. You won't be happy with 4.56 gears with 35's..I'm not happy with 4.56 gears on 33's. And yes, you must get both front and rear done.

Chico1970 4.0L Six, Stock tranny, I think the stock rears Dana 30-35.

4Jeepn which engine? which trans? in general for 35's you would need between 4.56-4.88's gears in both axles.. however what axles are you running?

Gearing??

Just bought a JY with 35" tires. It's a dog on the hills, I can't even get out of 2nd gear. What gears should I switch too? Do I have to get both done with the same replacement gearing?? Would a tranny swap work? I'm assuming it has the stock gears.
