Omar13 Just bought mine, Craig's List, for $5,500. It's a '97 Sport 4.0, 6 cylinder, manual, lifted with 33" tires, soft top. It took a couple weeks of constant searching. Don't be afraid to look at the jeeps priced out of your range. Someone might consider $4k if their ad reads $6k, you never know. I got mine for a thousand less. I even drove 3 hours (6hrs round-trip) to buy a Jeep, but once I got there the deal had changed and had to go home empty handed. Just be patient, know what you want, and search daily. Buying from a private owner is your best bet. Good luck!

XJ Knight Do note being in florida the prices are gonna be higher for you then for those of us in the north.. For 4K You might find a YJ in good shape probably in the 130-160K mile range maybe higher with a 4cyl 5 speed. Obviously deals are out there to be had everywhere but won't be as easy where you are

Blue_94_YJ I got my 94 for 4k from a local individual. Had 96k miles. Needs a new soft top but the one it has will do for now. And the clutch feels a little weak. It really depends on your area more than anything.

Annienaaron09 I bought my 97 at the beginning of may for 4200 and it was the cleanest one I looked at. Found it on cl listed for 5000. I lucked out and had to drive an hour to get it, keep looking!

JTjeep64 I would personally save up a little more cash. Im willing to bet any wrangler you buy for 4 grand is going to need at least a couple of repairs. If you spend your whole wad on the Jeep and something fails, then what?

Coldsteele I got my 97 wrangler sport for 2000 last month, guy couldn't drive the stick anymore because of an injured shoulder, I lucked out though. Keep looking, the deals are out there.

Pastman9997 I got my 97 wrangler sport off of craigslist for 5000.00 with the lift and many new upgrades for wheeling, he needed the money so that would be a great place to look. If you subscribe to JP magazine they have a great edition on what problems to look for when buying a used jeep and they list by year make and model. Good luck.

snowbrd84 Just start searching craigslist, you definitely dont want to try and buy from any sort of dealer in my opinion. When it comes to these older Jeeps, a dealer would sell at probably 40% more than you will find on craigslist and its not like it is in any better condition coming from a dealer... You should be able to find a 90-95 YJ for somewhere around $4000 in decent condition not needing any major repairs. However, for a daily driver, you are going to find out real fast that there are a lot of little things you will want to replace for convenience and performance. The bill adds up really really quick.... I bought my 89 for $2300 and I could have just driven it the way it was with no issues, so you can get them for cheap...

TopDwnWhlsUp I bought my yj for 5000 a couple years ago, was a 95 with 80 thousand miles 2.5 4cyl engine. Just traded it on my new jeep, but the dealer sold it the next week for 4800. So you might be able to find something in that range. If you are not in a hurry, I would suggest trying to find one with the 4.0 engine. If you have cash private party might be your best bet, just make sure the jeep hasn't been wheeled to hard (check the underside for scratches, dents etc.) My yj was a great introduction to jeeping, and I'm glad I owned that first. Good luck

Gaspump86 Hello im new to the forum. I am in the market for a used wrangler. I am interested in getting a soft top, 4x4, and i need to drive it as my everyday driver. I have $4000 to spend on the jeep itself, not counting tax, tag, title, & insur.

What can i expect? can i get a good jeep for this money? How many miles is too many on the odometer? Im new to the jeep world but i want one, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!
