|SecretAgentMan||Depending on how much stuff you have, you might want to look at the Bestop Underseat locking container as an economical alternative.|

|onewithnature19||Hmm sounds like I'll have to check all of these options out. I'm on a budget so I'm trying to find creative ways to fix/replace everything that needs to be fixed or replaced. So far I've managed to reattach the lid to the console, so maybe that'll work until I can save up to get something that lasts longer!! Thanks for your comments everyone|

This Monocular Night Vision canister from Military Containers
drops right in with a little cutting of the E-brake mount(about 3/4" or so), and of the center console (top of the rear cupholder and right behind it). I got one for $17 and an ammo can lock kit for $8, with a custom made pad for the top with velcro has me right about $35, while the Tuffy box is $345 on quadratec. With a little creativity and time i saved myself over $300, plus its padded inside. I also had a steel plate made to line up with the grade 8 bolts installed that goes under the floor on the bottom of my TJ so you cant just rip it out of the floorboard. Then a little red Loc-tite and good to go. I can email you pics if you need any.

|exavid||I can't do that with my ammo cans, they're full of 5.56mm ammo for my AR.|

|lys327||my console was broken into along time ago. the tuffy is way to expensive. i am going to remove my console and intall a 30MM ammo can. more storage, water proof and super ease to make lockable. plus its a more one of a kind. and i allready have ammo cans mounted on the front rocker panels|

|Ebxgsxr||tuffy is the way to go. i just ordered a boat load of tuffy stuff. glove box, the above mentions console insert, hood lock, hard door locks, both front & rear underseat drawers. best thing is also being able to match keys between products. i wished they bade something for over the radio like quadratec has.|

People bedline their Jeeps all the time, and therefore you can sometimes find a whole center console unit for cheap.
If your valuables are actually valuable, I wouldn't store them in the stock plastic console. That lid can be ripped off by most toddlers.
Look into a Tuffy Box if you want to secure anything worth securing.

I just bought a used 2000 TJ and the center console shows signs that it was broken into with the previous owner. The whole lid is detached and the screws that keep it on the hinge are inside the lid, plus it doesn't have a working latch mechanism. Is there any way I can replace the center console, or buy something that locks to fit inside of it? I'd hate to not be able to store things under lock and key when my top is off!
