Submariner OK, I have a M416. How did you get the rack to raise up? some mechanical device or 2 people? I am getting to old to lift that much weight.

when you changed your hubs did you loose the brakes or how did you solve that problem? I was toying with the idea of adapters to change to the TJ's wheel pattern.

I like the fender set up.

Now one more question. Have you set this up to remove the camping part off the trailer and use it for everyday trash hauling? As you see from my avitar, Iuse my trailer a lot.

Connecticut

Can you give me the contact information for the person in CT that does custom work. I am in the market for a trailer. The quotes I have been getting are over $8000.00 and the trailer need to be shipped here. I would love to find someone in CT that can build me a custom trailer.

Base height

Full height so ARB annex can be used (well it can go another 12 inches higher but there really isnt a need.

Few fun liitle pics next to his stock M416

Pretty much its 95% complete.....just need to pretty it up a bit with paint and bed liner.

On a side note if anyone in the CT area needs any custom work let me know and I can put you in contact with this guy. As you can see he does some amazing stuff and pretty much has a full shop in his garage.[/QUOTE]

Martin_N That's really cool. A trailer is most def on my wishlist, this is a beautiful example of how it can turn out if you put a good amount of effort in it.

Nice!

Flashole That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. It's a good thing I don't have a little more land and a lot more money. I would build stuff like that all the time.

Simply awesome!!

caseyjoe Gorgeous!!! Looks like something you could say good buy to the world and get lost in. Love the pop-up, wish it wasn't so expensive.

Great job!

Your trailer turned out nicely!

I have just begun my little trailer project. Before I find yours here, I had planned on building mine close to want you have so I was pleased to see that someone beat me to the punch. Which means less thinking on my part. So I hope you do not care if I borrow a few ideas. I was considering an adjustable mount for my RTT also because I am putting a cap on mine and want to be able to access the tub when the tent is extended. Would you mind giving me the dimensions the outer and inner box tubing you used for uprights? Another thing that I would love to see is how you did the frame in the tailgate? Thanks so much!

MattD Awesome! I like that the tent is off the ground. It gives a great advantage when having to shoot rogue zombies (I watch too many movies).
I'm truly jealous!

How much do the M416 trailers usually run? Depends alot on condition and location. I tend to see stock to slightly modded run between $500-1500

Didi you use a different axle that the one the trailer had originally

Still using the stock axle but it has 3" suspension lift and wheel adapters so I can run the 5x4.5 TJ lug pattern. This way I only have to carry 1 spare between my rig and trailer

A few questions
- What supports the base of the tent not supported by the frame on the trailer? Its hard to understand w/o seeing it in person but the floor is a special reinforced metal honeycomb with really beefy hinges. What little support thats needed is provided by the ladder

- Do the tires rub on the fenders?
Between the 3" lift, back spacing on the rims, and complete custom fenders .....there isnt anything close to rubbing

- What's the total cost for your project? Trailer, materials, tent, labor.
-Trailer was $900 with the 3" lift
-Rims $55 X2
-Tires $190X2
-Adapters $55
-CJ gate $100
-Trailer box $75
-Tent+annex $1400
-Metal and random materials $800
-Labor I cant put an amount on because I was fortunate enough to have a fellow jeeper local that pretty much has a complete shop in his garage. I traded his services for some aftermarket goodies I had. The guy did some amazing work too and all I had to do is pay for materials!

Total somewhere around $3.5k

It could have been done much cheaper but I went a bit fancy with an adjustable rack, rear tailgate, 35" tires, ARB tent with lower annex, and a bunch of random other goodies. Many people buy a cheaper version tent and just mount it to a fixed height rack and call it a day. That route can be done in a fraction of the time and much much cheaper.

Considering the Jeep brand version sells for around $12k and other lesser known brands around $8k I am very pleased with the outcome of my trailer. If you are serious about building one of your own or buying one already made I strongly suggest checking out Expeditionportal.com . Its a great resource to get support and ideas....they even have some nice trailers pop up in the classifieds. My main issue was that most of the nice trailers that come up for sale are all the way out west so there isnt much in New England.

k17trojan I can't wait to see this finished product. I've been looking for a good deal on a Bantam Trailer for the past few months. Eventually I'll find one and my build can begin. Looks great!
