This link helped me out the most when I first attempted this fix.
Have plenty of beer and patience handy.

I have the same problem. I started taking apart the front axle today to replace both seals. I'll finish it up tomorrow.
If you're interested, I found two excellent videos that show how to do this. Even though they are not Jeep specific, they procedure is exactly the same.

|RednekYJ||It is for sure the seal. You need to pull the axle shaft, intermediate shaft, and hub assembly to remove and replace it. Might wanna check out the ujoints and ball joints while you are in there.|

Fixing a leak in the front axle
Alright, yet another bug I'm trying to fix
I have an 87 YJ with the original front and rear axle. The front axle on the passenger side is leaking fluid. How can I figure out if it is a seal, or something else, and also how can I fix it once i figure out the problem? I know nothing on axles. Anyone know/have gone through what I'm talking about?
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!
