Cat and mouse game for now it seems.
Aslo while at the dealer Chrysler required an ECU flash last Saturday. Apparently it was in the Tech notes for my particular model.
An update on my particular situation. It seems that the Flashing of the ECU may have corrected my issue. Knock on wood. I've put quite a few miles on here and a few tanks of fuel. The CEL has not come back at all and running great. I am a pretty aggressive driver so I would hope that if there's an issues it would return. I'm thinking at this point it was a hiccup in the computer management system.

Nothing wrong with the metric system it is the car manufacturers that are screwing us but it is starting to change. I see Chevy trucks are now warrantied to 160,000 km in Canada.

gecko4 If you were in Canada, you'd be out of the warranty period. Hopefully, Chrysler covers it beyond our 100000km (60000mile) warranty. I'll have to talk to my buddies at the dealership, see if they've done any beyond 100000k's

TiggerRC Well they diagnosed my Jeep and ordered a new head. Should be here in a week. Has anyone had a 2012 with an AA left head that made it further then mine? 63,000 on odo but tires 10% large so 69,000 equivalent.
Also fwiw, I've put 400 miles on since the CEL and they said it will be fine to drive it until parts arrive so at least when it happens it doesn't leave ya sit.

blackrubicon 2102 13k on it build date 12-11. Threw PO302 code for 3rd time in last 3 months. No tick no misfire. Suppose it's time to take it in. Chrysler should be embarrased as hell over this screw up. Henry Ford was building engines 100 years ago. Hard for me to understand how an issue with head could haapen. Not sure if its a error in manufacturing or engineering screw up. Needless to say I'm very unimpressed with the overall quality. But should have expected it after Chrysler took over.
04-12-2014 10:03 PM
TiggerRC FWIW, my jeep has always been parked outside in a carport since new and almost never warmed up before driving. Granted I never rev it over 2000 rpm or so for the first 1-2 miles. I have run Schaeffer's full synthetic with moly ever since break in. Not sure that has helped or not.

I've changed oil and filter every 8k and with oil analysis done on every change for warranty reasons. Every analysis has come back with the recommendation to extend oil drains to 10k or more. Its used 5-6 days a week for mail delivery rain, shine, snow or cold. Not abused but never babied. Two winters with several weeks of sub-zero starts each winter. I Just turn the key and go.
04-12-2014 09:25 PM
Muddr1 I had just about 40,000 on mine before it threw a code and got the head replaced.
From what I was told, by two techs, if you let the jeep warm up and treat it nice, it will take longer for the issue to rear its head.
If your the one whe jumps in on a cold day and head out before the engine is warm and happy, the sooner youll be in for head replacement.

Again not my words, so take it for what its worth.

snobnk 2012 with 40000+ and no tick...Jinks
04-12-2014 07:19 PM
BigManAndy Was just thinking about this today. 2012 just rolled over 20k and no ticks and original heads.
04-12-2014 03:27 PM
xox.ilu.xox I have a 2010 JKU and mine needs a new engine after it started making "lifter" noise. We took it in right away. Dealership says it needs a new engine. Been two weeks with no word from Chrysler Canada. Pisses me off. Just want my jeep back im having major widrawals.
04-12-2014 10:18 AM
demarpaint I'd hope the thing failed early. I would not want a head with lets say 50,000 miles on one side of the engine and a brand spanking new head on the other side of the engine. JMO

Edit: In reality its almost 70k since my tires are 10% bigger then stock.
That's interesting that you noticed a misfire before it set a code, it was the same for me. So if people are failing heads at 60K or higher what's to say that this won't happen at 101K? I called Chrysler warranty to complain about poor quality and I got the standard "there isn't a problem with the heads because there hasn't been a recall" response. I've seen one person state that they had a passenger side head replaced, how long will it be before that side comes to roost?

Just got my JK back this morning. Pouring down rain here in Charlotte, so I have not looked under the hood yet, or driving it with the windows down, but I did notice that when I cranked it to leave the dealer there was no ticking anymore, which is nice.

Also got the multifunction switch on the left side of the steering wheel replaced as my windshield wipers would make a swipe or two when you used the right turn signal. LOL>

thanks for the info, mine doesn't tick, but it seems like my fuel milage is in the dumps, I got 17MPG on the highway today. I got 21 last weekend on the same trip. It makes me wonder if the computer has separate "safe" fuel maps that it runs when the MIL light is on. my ECO light has not come on since I set the code this morning.

I did notice a couple people that have had heads replaced said that they had a P0304 as well? Just for informational purposes my Jeep is a 2012 2 door sport s manual with 28k miles. Harlow

I have a feeling your issue is not related to a bad cylinder head. Hopefully they get to the bottom if it for you. Good luck!

Too soon to tell. It could be a bad coil pack, or a plug. We need a lot more info, the actual diagnosis will be nice. Subscribed again.

I'd be interested in your build date and julian date stamped on your head. I've got an early 13 as well.

flyfish29 Yeah. I'm worried my 2012 with 22,000 miles will not throw the code until I head out West from NH to the Rockies in the hot summer of 2015. We just don't get the high heat here in NH. It will Probably happen in the plains of western Kansas near where my last major Jeep breakdown was in 1995. (Fuel leak on the way to Yellowstone. The jeep had less than 2,000 miles on it. )

Yes this is also my worry. I also started running syn after break in and am in north idaho with less hot days in the summer. I'm thinking all this extends the inevitable. The engine rattles a noticeable amount more at startup then when new, has the "tick" on the left side since 15k or so and a small misfire at idle.
