funny you bring that up

First off, thank you so very much for your help. When I have gone to oreilys and advance, the bearing that shows up my shaft is too big, so we went with a bearing that we could get to fit. With that said, there are pictures above of the passenger side, which is not leaking and with a good setup, and its bearing is similar to the one I have. I am working on the drivers side.

Setup

Jerry, do you thinks with the setup as it is pictured above could be fine to press and put back on?

Jerry Bransford That seal is not one I have seen installed before and it does not look like the right seal... which could be why it is leaking. The double-sided seal in posts 3 and 6 is the only seal I have ever seen used there.

And where is the race for the bearing that is installed in that picture?

The bottom line is this... there are no other parts other than the ones I listed above.

The bearing that I have, does not have that ring, but my passenger side has it. it is a separate piece, independent of the bearing (though it may very well come with the bearing (but not with mine))

inner seal

when you ask about the inner seal, do you mean a seal in the pumpkin, or the seal after the retaining plate on the axle shaft?

Question

Jerry, it sounds like the piece i am describing is the race. All of the bearings that I have looked at, havent had any thing like that with them. any suggestions, I have some better pictures here.

Jerry Bransford The piece that goes between the seal and bearing? I believe you are seeing/asking about the bearing's race which is part of and comes with the bearing itself. The bearing will pull out of its race and usually leave it in the axle housing.

Just go buy a SET 10 bearing which includes the race. Position the new bearing so its race is seated in towards the axle housing.

I have the retaining plate

as well as the seal on the shaft, what I am looking for is that one little ring with a lip. that sits between the seal and the bearing. The ring that I do have is either warped or not the right one. any ideas?

Jerry Bransford The bracket you're asking about is called an Axle Shaft Seal Retainer and it is p/n 05010811AA.

Bearing retainer p/n 83503077
Seal p/n 83503063
Bearing p/n SET 10 with the factory p/n 83503064

There is a definite order, you can see it below in the photo I took of mine years ago.

The axle shaft seal retainer bracket faces so its inner lip faces into the axle housing, that lip is what holds the seal in place. Then the seal, with its cup shaped opening facing the axle housing.
Then the bearing, with its race positioned on the axle housing side. Then of course the bearing retainer.

GoldenSahara00 Did you or the other guy replace the inner seals? And I would think of all else fails you could go to a pull yard and get one of those, granted it might be hard to find a 44 and I don't know if they are all the same as the jeeps 44.

DANA 44/225 HELP Jeep 2005 TJ Rubicon

A friend noticed oil splattered all in my wheel well- he assumed the leak was coming from rear driver side differential and changed the bearings and seals (I wasn't there when he put it back in, and I have no idea what the setup looked like). So I am now having a major issue, it is still leaking, so I pulled the shaft the other day and it was all shades of odd. The seal was torn... anyway, OReileys has bearing that doesnt fit... Well as you can see in the picture, I have found one and I have the seal and retainer, that seem to fit... haven't pressed anything on yet because I am still not convinced of the set up. I finally got fed up with Oreillys not being able to track down the right parts.

So, I pulled the passenger side shaft to make to use that as a template to work from. Now I am well aware that it goes, retaining plate, seal, bearing, ring... however, there is a small ring, pictured that I believe has to go on there as well (shim, bearing cup, oil slinger, I have no idea the name of the part and NO one can find it for me. I would imagine that it comes with a bearing, but they cannot figure that out either), just under the bearing between it and the seal, that is how the passenger side looks.

oh also, I have a 4'' lift, fabtech, which is why I believe that little spacer is needed, but I dont know if both sides should match or what to do.
HELP if you can, I simply cannot stand to have my Jeep immobile.

The pictures include the passenger side setup, all the crap that I BELIEVE came off the axle AFTER it was "fixed", and the random ring with a lip on it that I am trying to find.
