Twisted top frame???

I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler Sport - soft-top.

In 2010 I purchased a new Bestop top for my Jeep. The old one was showing some wear. I bought a new top (including back and rear windows), and had a family friend install it (he also does custom upholstery, and had installed several Jeep tops).

Summer 2011 - I notice that the stitching over the roll-bar is starting to pull. The overlap is stretched, and I posted pictures on here. Thanks to the advice of people on here, I requested a replacement top, which Quadratec shipped me at no cost.

Summer 2012 - The stitching is starting to pull again. Same problem as last year.

So... a couple thoughts:

* The guy who installed in 2011 did something to the frame. However, with his experience, I don't believe that. Plus, locking the top in place is no more difficult now than when I had the old top.

* The frame was defective early on, but the original top was so stretched that it had relaxed.

* I'm jinxed and both tops are faulty.

So, is there a way to determine if the top is twisted/kinked/"off" in some way?

Any other thoughts/suggestions?
