wooofdog Yup, my 99 TJ does the same thing. When I flash my high beams the speedo, tach, etc. usually come alive again. I've got too many other repairs to fix before worrying about this. It is more of an inconvenience than a safety issue for me.

Jeeprz Any luck with that, Nicole? My 99 TJ is startin' to do the same thing. Airbag light comes on when the gauges aren't working, and when I shift, it starts to work again.

outofmoney Very common problem. Just pull gauge cluster and coat pins with dielectric grease. May want to clean connections first.

GAUGES/cluster lights

Hi all, new here.. hoping for some help. about two months ago I finally bought my first jeep, 1999 TJ (5 speed 4 cyl, if it matters) in great condition, and it has ran perfectly fine. I had it out to the shop when I bought it and had it checked out, everything seemed fine. Recently, I have been having problems with my gauges on the dash not working. At first, NONE of them (rpms, spedometer, gas tank, battery, oil, engine temp) moed at all from their off position, which I didn't notice until I was driving down the road and checked my speed. When I got home, i checked all the fuses, and changed the one for the cluster lights. all was well for about a week. the other day, it started acting up again. it seems like when i start the vehicle, the gauges don't work, but after about 5 minutes, it will eventually kick into place as i shift gears. I've thought of pulling apart the dash and making sure all the connections are ok, but I've checked the conections under the hood, and the fuses like I said.
Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem, so I don't start pulling apart unnecessary things? A point in the right direction, please.. All the headlights/ turn signals/ brake lights work fine, vehicle runs fine, turn signals flash on the dash, and sometimes the airbag light is on while the gauges aren't working.
Thank you in advance for any advice

I'm a woman who was with a mechanic for 4 years. I know my stuff, but I'm still a woman. Please nothing TOO intense !
