Np deff don't want to get in above your head doing a gear swap, and plus its easier to just do a straight swap.

Stevee0 Finally! Thank You!!!! 98 tj Sport... I just put the jeep back together and sending it home. Thanks for the details, that's what I was needing. Ill keep looking for 98 d35 3.07. Mean while I now have a 1988 Cherokee D35 front and rear with 3.55 gears for sale. ;D

98 tj sport Changing gears is not for one who hasn't done it before you will end up causeing more damage than helping, like eveyone else has said find someone selling a tj d35 with gears, if she has oversize tires try to find one with a gear ratio closer to what is needed but if not then get the same ratio, and then all u gotta do is jack it up unbolt cas, unbolt shocks, unbolt sway bars, unbolt track bar, and unbolt driveshaft, drop old axle out slide new underneath and reverse procedure, easy as pie and wouldn't take but a couple hours. Then u take the old one and scrap it and make a little cash.

GoldenSahara00 If you think you can do it, then go for it. I think your still under the carrier break with those gears, but other than that. I am no gear expert either. But your gona save money doing a full axle versus buying a new set of gears.

Stevee0 ok, thats the details I needed from you , thanks. I dont have a axle at the moment and this is what I have to work with. So can I just swap the ring and pin and leave in the diff gears?

No no no. Just replace everything. The whole housing and all. Find a Tj d35 with gears, and just swap it under. I can buy axles for 150 bucks all day long here. It will take maybe a few hours to unbolt control arms and drive shaft sway links and track bar and undo brake likes etc. then swap. If you have done it before.

Stevee0 So keep the the original casing bolted to the frame and pull out the both left and right axle, diff gears, pin and ring. Toss them in the junk yard then gut the other one and replace both axles, ring and ping. Leave the old bearings and use the same yoke? Sorry for all of the questions but I usually do things three times before I get it right.

GoldenSahara00 Unless you know how to setup gears, no. A straight swap means You pull out the whole axle and put a whole new axle in, and take the old one to the scrap yard to sell. It is cheaper and easier.

Stevee0 Sorry to ask a dumb question but whats does a straight swap over mean? Can I just replace the main gear ring from the 3.07 and drop in the 3.55. And not change out the pin or diff gears? I am in Indiana.

GoldenSahara00 Don't screw around with trying to fix the gearing and all that. You want a straight swap over. Also, like you said the axle isn't the right axle anyways. Where are you located? There are lots and lots of d35s out there, from TJs.

OK, now that I realize that when something is to good to be true... it is. This rear end is 3.55 gears and I have 3.07 on her Jeep. Can I just swap out the ring gear only? Or do I have to do the diff and the pin as well?

Stevee0 by the way, the gears off of the wrangler 1998 d35 is a 3.07 and the Cherokee 1988 is a 3.55. will these swap? From what I read it can be done... Do I need to swap out the pin and the ring or can I just swap just the ring. Of course the front is still a 3.07 and will need to be dealt with.

Stevee0 Ahhh..... Mayday, Mayday! Im coming in hot! This rearend is D35 but it come off of a 1988 CHerokee and her Jeep is a 1998 Wrangler. the shocks will not mount up on this rear end. Will at least the gears work in her housing?

tj00wrangler $1000 bucks for a D35!!! That is a rip off. I can see if was a D44 from a rubi, But not a d35. Or a 8.8 that is bolt in.

Stevee0 Update, Craigslist worked out. Local junk yard wanted $1000.00 for an old rear end with my core. But I found a guy about two hours away that will sell me the front and rear for $200.00. Whoo hoo!!!

Oh and I had the neighbor over for dinner. Chicka chicka bow wow...as far as the picture goes... lol I'll see what I can do discretely without get nabbed while taking that photo.

4Jeepn Try car-parts.com for junkyards in your area. Also put a call into any local 4x4 shops that might have then sitting around. p.s its a TJ not a CJ if its an 1998.

Ya, there are classifieds here. Post a WTB ad on this and other forums, shouldn't be hard to find a cheap D35. Some guys may not be advertising a D35, but might respond to a WTB ad because they have one sitting in a corner of the garage taking up space.

I second this... After doing my 8.8 swap I gave mine away last year, after trying to sell it for a few months at $100. Keep scanning Craig's List. If you are looking to rebuild rather than replace here is a good place to order from on line...

D35 rebuild economical?

Whats the cheapest way to rebuild a D35 3.07 rear end. Wrangler CJ 4.0 1998. So my neighbor is 5,2" beautiful brown Bambi eyes and long flowing brown hair as fair as gravity will let it grow. Comes over to asked for a cup of milk. OK, you see where this is going. next thing you know the words are drewling out of my mouth, "of course I work on cars." Im sure some of you all have been here before.
I havent pulled the Jeep in my driveway yet, but she said and other guy said the rear end (cough cough) needs to be looked at. The gears might be out of it.
Whats a cheapest way to help this little old country girl out? (ok, whats the cheapest way to help me out?)
I started looking for prices on used and new and its all over the places for parts.
Where is the best place to start if the local junk yards are not coming up with rear ends?
Call me a sucker...
