Welcome to the Jeep world. I sold my 2010 Camaro and haven't thought about it for a single day; and I thought I loved that car. I put so much time and effort into making it exactly what I wanted. Then I got my Jeep!!! Just felt right. I went 3.5" and 35s and really don't plan to wheel much. I would love to take a trip and get it a little dirty but I know that will create an addiction and I've already spent a little money on this thing. Mine drives great every day and it stands out. There are a lot of 2.5" lifts on 35s around my area but I love the 3.5" space. That being said, I'm on the stock shaft and fully expect one day I will need to replace it, and I'm ready to do that right now if it happened.
One thing to consider if you go 35s is cost. Tires are more, you'll need a bumper to carry the spare, and the list will just keep rolling.

|Canadian GP||The only fault I could find on the test ride was a lot of wind noise at highway speeds. The radio was off and the windows were rolled up and when you consider the square front end and an almost upright windshield it was not so bad.|

Exactly! I am not a fan of mud either. First thing you do is find a local group and do a ride or two with them. Then you just may have a different out look!

|RUBINOT||Welcome aboard. There are lots of "Trails" that you can take that do not envolve mud, big rocks or body damage. You can have plenty of fun off road and don'r have to be just a posser.|

I am in the minority who thinks the Wrangler looks great stock. With the top down and doors off it is awesome!
Although you have to do 1 mod for that. Since the mirrors are on the door being removed you will have to put a cheap set on the pillar or relocate the ones from the doors. There are many threads for that.
Good luck and do what you want with it, that is the great thing about Wrangler ownership, there are many options.

|sneck||I think most folks who wheel build up their rigs for looks and function as well. unless you get crazy and are chopping up the tub, most of us will "bling out" in some was shape or form anyways. the visual mods (bumpers tires wheels rock rails) are all picked based on looks; it just happens that if the item is crap you wont get it. but theres not too much of that (wheels are the only spot this is really an issue). just check out some of the pics people post of their rigs, find out what mods they have that you like the look of, and get them. the only difference between a mall crawler and a trail rig is the driver.|

Semi Retired here, FORMER owner of a 2010 Camaro myself that I bought in late 2009.
Despised that car due to Dealership problems.
Bought the most basic Jeep that I could. No door locks, no power windows, Soft Top, 6 speed manual. I mean BASIC. My kids like it, my grand children ADORE it and fight to go for rides in it.
Too new to off road for me yet, but will see the local gorge trail this Fall to take in the Fall colors as well as some of the foothills south of us on some nasty seasonal use roads.
Doing a road trip starting today, but taking the road trip car instead of the Jeep. 40+ MPG vs 20-21 MPG makes a difference! When I get back next week the doors and top are coming off just to give that a try. Been YEARS since I've done that when I lived in New Mexico back in the 70's.
Just do it! It won't be as quick as the Camaro, you know that going in. For myself, I am HAPPIER having a Jeep back in the garage for my use than I did that Camaro. It was ludicrous how pampered that darn Car was!

The first thing you must do is remove the top and doors. the heater is very serious so even in Canada you will get a lot of topless season.
Drive it for a few weeks that way, topless every day. rain or shine. It will change your attitude toward life.
The best way to make the new jeep look serious is some great big ass scrapes from rocks and trees. It's free too, if you don't actually break anything.
However if you don't like the accompanying rust and depreciation, just buy some stuff you think looks cool!
I just bought some "hard core" (and rather presumptuous) LoD bumpers and a winch for my 2012 JK. it's my daily commute to the cubicle driver. I live in illinois and I don't much care for mudding and we have NO rock. however, a Jeep with no doors and top, or just a bikini or the freedom top front sections for shade is a hoot to drive. I don't need big cool looking tires to roll down the highway to work but the Jeep has kept me off my sport motorcycle for all but 2 days in the 2 months I've owned the jeep. it's that much fun.

This tread made me giggle. Dont get me wrong Im not trying to be an ass or anything.
The way I see it is.
Its easy to make a jeep look like some hardcore trail rig to folks that dont offroad.
You might be able to fool some folks that do offroad a bit.
You cant fool anyone that lives and breaths dirt, mud, rocks. Most guys I know can look at a rig and tell if its built for abuse in half a min. (a little hint for you, anytime me and my buddys check out a jeep we get down low and look under it first.)
So my two cents is if you want to "fool" 98% of folks you can do whatever looks good to you. They will see its a jeep thats not stock and beleave you ae willing to go anywhere in it.

Do what I did. My Jeep spends most of it's time on road, as I don't have too many places to offroad.
15" Wheels with 33" Duratrac tires. Awesome ONroad (and off) and look great.
A Teraflex coil leveling kit. Will give you a bit of height, level the Jeep, and give you a great ride.
A front bumper of choice.
Some offroad lights.
Bright diff guards if you REALLY want to pose.
Other than that, you're golden.

|pkmcd99||The great thing about Jeeps is the enormous customization and parts availability. Build to suit. I recommend google image search the jeep of your choice to get some ideas of the look you want. Then calculate the parts and cost.|

|desertgoose||IMO go for 33" all terrain tires with a budget boost and some cool rims that aren't too flashy. That will get you through any mild trails, won't hum very loud on the road, and improve traction in the winters up there. Once you hit 2.5" of lift or higher you might run into other issues that will need addressed with more expensive mods. Other than that I would say add appearance mods to make it your own. Good luck whatever decisions you make.|

|twxsby||I would say a winch is a little over the top for looks. My opinion would be 33" tires, no lift stock wheels. new bumpers and lights. extra lights are great, even if you don't go off road, it still gets dark.|

Things I learned from this forum/internet:
- a set of 33 inch tires with a small spacer lift or leveling kit will result in minimal change in your Jeep's function, but give you a tougher look...especially on wider, custom wheels.
- a cool guy bumper is di rigeur for achieving "the look". The trend seems to be HUGE beastly bumpers weighing at least 100 lbs...if you have extra cash, you can go aluminum. Also "in" are stubby bumpers.
- winches look bad ass, but they are an expensive fashion add. Cheaper and more useful over all if a Hi-Lift jack. Get the all cast model in bright red for maximum visibility and mount it on the exterior of your Jeep.
- Rock your shackles and clevis pines on the outside of your Jeep at all times, consider mouting a tow strap somewhere visible. Gas can mounts are super legit for creating the hard core look as are roof/expidition racks.
- going with a set of upgraded rock rails will help, as will new diff covers like those from ARB. This can be more work and expense than you want though.
Summary - slightly bigger tires, badder looking wheels, mean bumper, little lift, and off-road accessories = fashion win!
