snochick I haven't looked at the skids made by other companies bc we ordered the one for our bumpers but the one from poison spyder also rotates the motor up according to the description. I'd post pics of how it does this for ya but parts for my rock rails are on back order and so my whole order has been held up in shipping.

We ordered the skid for mine too bc it looks like it will provide some deflection on the steering components too. Sadly I don't have it yet though.

pluke the 2 the first issue is binding sway bar links which will damage and tweak out your motor. possibly rip it off its mount and definitely break it.

the fix, just throw away the motor.

that's why it's recommended to manually disconnect.

ilikeguns I would not drive on the highway with it disconnected.. that is no bueno.

I would think that there is a way to crank it down manually somewhere so it would reconnect.

kurtz265 Fair enough Sneck! Its funny, to your point, ive never tried driving discoed while on road, the 20 or so times ive had them discoed were always off road (beach, trails, etc)

sneck I won't lie, I don't have a rubi, so I wouldn't know too many details. I might question where the motor is located that it warrants having a skid, just because there really isn't that much room between the front bumper and the engine, but I honestly don't know. What I would recommend, if you are worried, is go driving a few times with the swaybar disconnected. get a feeling for how it handles under normal driving (as a heads up, its not that great. don't plan on cornering sharply).

You'd have to search around for broken sway bar motor to find out what the common cause of motor failure is, because I have no idea! same thing with skidding it, I wish I could answer but I don't know. all I know is, its not too terrible to drive with no sway bars!

Great info, thanks! I was hoping the Jeep wouldnt become a rolling deathbrick on the highway with the sway bar discoed. As I've begun to research front bumpers, I've noticed that several come with skid plates as an option, which are marketed to protect an auto-sway bar disco that comes on the Rubis.

This naturally led me down the path- how serious would a broken disco motor be, and how would I "trail fix" this problem to get home. We typically go to Rausch, which is a couple hundred miles of highway driving.

sneck well, have no fear, you can drive without a sway bar. best bet, drive home safe, and convert from the motor to the manual adjust Off Road Evolution Jk 07-11, NoLimits Manual Rubicon Swaybar Disconnect (1087)

I've been told its actually a simple mod and 90$ is a ripoff, but I havn't looking for a write up either.

I'm under the impression there is far less a chance of breaking the motor on the trail than there is of busting the links, just because getting the right length is complicated

Tried searching for this one and came up empty. Has anyone ever broken their Rubi's auto sway bar disco motor while wheeling? If so, how would you reconnect to get home?
