GREEN-MACHINE thanks guys ,, im going to tie the frame into the side of my work shop so all i'll need is 2 vertical post, 2 horizontal supports and X it across the top and i should be good to go.

antpink I've got a 10 ft ceiling in the garage. The attached pic shows how high I can get everything, allowing for strap knots etc. This clears the soft top by about 4" when I park the Jeep u/neath.

Depending on if you want to lift all the way from the floor, or just from the elevation of fitting on the jeep itself, you need to be careful how much length you have for the cables/block and tackle at the height you are fixing the hoisting gear. See attached.

I didn't have the ability to go to the back wall of the garage so added a hoop to run the lines through - even then it was touch and go to get enough distance (and I am only getting enough vertical drop to the height of the jeep itself).

All I'm saying, I guess, is be careful with the lengths you need in the horizontal for the vertical lift. Good luck getting it all done.

If you're just going to put it outside on a simple frame, you don't need much "lift" at all.

Harken hoist question

so i plan on buying one soon,,, question is how much height is required above the jeep to lift the roof off,,, reason i want to know is i will be installing mine outside,,, yup i will just build a simple frame beside my work shop to mount up the hoist.
