My wife is 5'2" and uses this to get into my '91 YJ running SOA with 35" MTZs. Both my kids rock booster seats and one prefers noise reducing headphones, but they live it. I did swap to a family cage and had cross bars added for reinforcing. BTW, the stirrup came from
Allthingsjeep.com. That picture is from the web site, not mine.

mrpotatohead Agreed. That car took forever to die. Here was her "uh-oh" from a few months back. An Envoy with a hitch stabbed the gas backing out of a spot as she was driving past. I thought this was the end of the car but her dad is just as thrifty and literally had a matching door on it in less than 6 hours

AdrianVall That's pretty amazing that the Plymouth lasted that long! Very cool.. I'd DEFINITELY say get an XJ. I miss mine sometimes.

Good luck!

mrpotatohead Update on the plymouth! It's dead! Her cv axle let go, thankfully when she was on the quiet road in front of my apt and her daughter is off with other family.

I wonder if i can talk her into a cherokee?

I really appreciate everyones input. I've decided to order some grab handles and some rock sliders/steps to make life a little easier on the little women. The only other thing I have to figure out is how to score a deal on a hardtop to get out of this searing heat.

Pilgrim_Jeep My 2 1/2 year old LOVES riding in the carseat in the TJ. His mom was against it at first, but the family cage and the anchor strap make her somewhat comfortable. I have a hardtop only, so she was always worried it was going to rain and we'd have no top...got a bikini top, and she's OK now. He loves the wind whipping in his hair, being able to see everything.

When the hardtop is on, he still loves it. Tons of room to kick back, big window to look out, no worries of him opening the door or window, and he puts his toys on the wheel well.

But, I will tell you, I'm gonna sucker-punch the next old lady who scolds me for not being safe when we pull up to a store! Especially when I have the dog (on a leash tied to the roll bar connected to a harness) and the boy.

JustinCHorst Just like you have to make due with the Plymouth I would make due with the Jeep until the situation clarifies itself.

NC Bear my now 16 yr old daughter rode in a car seat in the back of a 79 CJ-5 from 3 to 8 (NC has a law of 8 or 80 #'s) and now I have a 2 yr old son who is in a seat in the back of a 97 TJ. Works great!

moabbound I rock my TJ with a carseat in the backseat. It works.

NMRubicon Family has to come first, but I know I would do everything in my power to keep the Jeep! I wouldn't hesitate to haul kids around, fortunately mine are old enough to get in and out on their own, and then whine they want to drive.....Ha! I remember the days of having 1 car seat in my little 2 seat pickup, the choices we have now that offer comfort and off road capabilty never ceases to amaze me, I can bounce and scratch up the side of a desert mountain in 4 lo when it is 100 degrees outside and not break a sweat. I think if you get rid of the Jeep, you will regret it, and it may become a bone of contention between the two of you.

Timberwolf you could always "borrow" the plymouth and if it happens to suffer a catastrophic failure while in your possession, so be it...

mrpotatohead The little one loves riding sans top. Especially driving on the beach at Pismo when the gulls fly over. My gf hates it because she's 5'2" and even only with a 4" and 33's she has to crawl in.

As for the Breeze... Hate isn't a word I can describe for the way I feel about that car. She grew up dirt poor down by the border so she has this natural tendancy to get maximum use out of everything. Which isn't a bad thing at all. Trust me, I just wish she would be willing to set the Plymouth on fire and move on to something better especially when I know she can afford it.

jeepers29 My kids love the TJ. Doesn't she know that Jeepin isn't a choice, it's a calling!

PecosRiver Get her a 4 door JK and you'll still be Jeeping and the kiddo will be comfortable.

I have a 3 y.o. granddaughter that I haul around in my JK and it's a great family ride. I can't answer you're exact question though, sorry.

Chuck B Tough situation...if you can, why not replace the breeze with something for her and keep the Wrangler?

Life happens.

How many people are currently running carseats in their cj/yj/tj's? Over the past year I've gone from bachelor status without doors and a backseat to borderline engaged. My girlfriend happens to be a mother of an adorable (almost) 3 year old. She hasn't quite come out and told me she wants me to ditch my Jeep but shes been dropping hints that she hates the damn thing.

When we take trips with the kiddo we usually take my Jeep because her Plymouth Breeze has 225k and well... It's a plymouth breeze with 225k. Who knows what life has in store for us but i guess I'm trying to get a general consensus of people who feel it's okay to use a lifted Jeep as a family hauler.
