So why teach evolution? Just tell the kids they are all cabbage patch babys. I want junk science out of our schools.

skyking49 The run on the "ticket" so reporting on any of them is fair game...besides no many people have ever heard of her. I would be worried if for some reason she had to take over for John M. I don't even think she is for abortion in cases of rape. As a politician, Palin has sided with the majority evangelical view in opposing gay marriage and expressing a desire to see creationism discussed alongside evolution in schools. I want religion out of politics.

Palin's stance on access to abortion to be limited only to those women whose lives are in danger. She does not believe that women and girls who are victims of rape and incest should have abortions. I don't know of many women or people in general that believe a girl should be forced to have a child when she is raped or a victim of incest. I would never vote for John M. because she is on the ticket. I am an independent.

ChrisTX Biden is an upstanding American who will step on anyone of you to make himself look better.

Delaware Grapevine

His wife screwed up and pulled out in front of an 18 wheeler, but Biden has said the guy was DWI to garner the sympathy vote. He's a POS.

cavediverjc I hate politics, and usually don't play the game, but this link was sent to me from a good friend. It's a video that everyone needs to see. If you're thinking that Obama is a good choice, watch this video and think again.....

The problem is the Dems know that there is no comparison to be made between McCain and Obama, it will only point out Obamas complete lack of experience, where they can argue semantics with Palin, he can't hold a candle to McCain.

God, I hope you are kidding! It'd be tough to find 2 people less qualified to be President, but you are swinging for the cheap seats there with Kucinich, he's a bigger nut job that Dean, and that is saying something!

ChrisTX Obama will be his own demise. He is letting Palin consume him. He has brought himself to the level of being the competition for a VP candidate. It's put McCain on a level all by himself. Biden isn't even in the picture anymore.

While I like her, personally, I think Palin is a fad, just like Obama, but she is more of a fad that people can more closely relate to. Most people are tired of seeing crusty, old white guys in campaign ads. At the end of the day, most people aren't going to know her stances on the specific issues, but they will remember her Kawasaki 704s, and that she's a "hockey mom". It's all about marketing.

JT, I'm sorry, I refuse to get even a glimmer of excitement over a politician. They're all liars because that's what we expect. We expect huge promises and no follow through. In fact, we encourage it. She's nothing to use bold about or a large font. Neither is Obama.

Amy, the media is a profit motivated system now. It's gotten so you can't trust anything if you don't witness it with your own eyes.
Actually the part in red is exactly why she's so appealing. From what most honest people can tell, she's actually done what she promised and has actually done something about the corruption.

P.S. it's naughty librarian damnit.

4point Obama and Palin have a couple of things in common, they BOTH lack experience in the position they are after. They both have an older very experienced running mate. By experienced I mean "carrier politician" which turns people off. Their freshness is what attracts people to them. As president Obama would get the help he needs from his advisors as would Palin if she had to assume that position from McCain.
They will all go back on their campaign promises once they realize the actual situations here in the US and abroad. Bottom line is Obama, Bieden and Palin don't have a clue on foreign affairs and wont unless elected to office.

tarheel I get tired of the whole mess. The RNC/DNC tries to package their offering in a simple compartment to appeal to everyone. The media compartmentalizes the candidates in a way that they think we will swallow without chewing over first. I personally don't agree 100% with any candidate, but yet end up voting for one that appears to agree with my own ideas as close as can be expected. No one is just like me or thinks just like me. With the amount of influence on the national levels, we have to choose and hope our voting sets the tone for the rest of races. More decisions occur on state and local levels that affect me directly daily than I can keep up with.

4Jeepn The reason the fight has turned to Palin is simple, she is the reason that the dems might lose the election. Her pick come out of nowhere and they are in recovery mode. Think about it for a moment. No matter how little experience she might have as a chief executive, she is the ONLY one out of the 4 people running who has that experience. She infused the base and also has brought over thousands of women votes, the largest voting group in the county mind you, to the republican camp. She has an 82% approval rating in her home state. Thus, she has a record, is it perfect no, is it better than Obama, I think the answer is yes.

In another twist, Joe Biden and barrack voted to keep funds to keep the bridge to no where, vs sending that money to katrina aid, Biden also supports dividing Iraq up into different area's based on race, and religion. So he is for segregation. Wonder if anybody told obama about that one? Oh and Obama in his normal mode didn't vote on that one.

It might be too late...

This morning McCain is now up 10% over dems. Among likely voters in three off the national polls. Now that is a BOUNCE!

i am in total agreement with you. theyre all con artists....its just picking the lesser of the evils. i cant bring myself to support either, so i'll be "throwing away my vote" (again) and voting libertarian most likely.

JCS05Rubi This is purely my opinion, as I am not a mind reader, but I have my own theory. I think they are going after Palin Vs Obama, because that is there only choice. I think democrats are starting to realize that Obama has so little (read none) experience and so little to offer, they have no shot directly comparing president nominees and VP nominees. I think they figure there only hope is to compare Obama with the least experienced candidate, which would obviously be Palin. I understand Palin has done a lot in the limited time she has held office, and I understand all of her experience is executive, but lets face it. If you are running for president, and your ONLY experience is NOT voting while you are in the senate for a year, and running a campaign, you have a much better chance comparing yourself to a VP nominee that has only been in office a few years, than McCain.

One more thing

JFK hated LBJ and LBJ hated JFK both of them saw each other as an means to an end.

JFK needed a Southern Democrat to lock up the South over a much more qualified Nixon and it worked.

After the death of JFK LBJ did all he could to publicly paid enormous respect to Jackie for traction and it worked....

So you can't tell me it is an issues election because if it was about being qualified Obama would be planning/plotting for his next legislative election not with his eye the Brass Ring election!

Face it DEMS.... You got SERVED!!!

Sarah Is Da Man or would that be DA WOMAN?

amy Tiny, you are absolutely right. I've noticed the same thing, everyone comparing Palin and Obama instead of Obama and McCain. They keep talking about her being "a heartbeat away from the Presidency." It seems to me that they are either afraid of her or they have already decided that McCain will not live through his term, if elected.

I'm getting really sick of the media. They don't bother to check facts anymore. They just spout whatever makes good press. Not just about Palin and the repubs, they're doing this sort of thing about everyone. I admit, I'm old. I remember when the news at least tried to be fair and impartial. When Walter Conkrite reported something, it was like gospel. Now, the mainstream media is more like the National Enquirer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Palin is running for Vice President and Obama is running for Prez. Shouldn't the discussions be Palin vs Biden? Obama vs McCain or has this become the Palin Obama hour because democrats have just written off McCain as dead due to advancing age?

Yes, I say democrats because the threads are always calling Palin into question. My favorite is a laughable thread on Motherhood and Vice Presidency. It's starting to smack of jealousy that republicans seem to have placed Palin under the same sainthood tent the democrats used to canonize Obama.

If and when McCain wins it will be a four year term...

We live in a Rock Star Culture No one can dispute that Sarah Palin is a Rock Star... As long as she does not disappoint the base you are looking at the First US Female US President. Mrs Clinton Pack your crap and move to wherever YOU ARE A DONE DEAL.

Good thing my daughter bought the SP Glasses Frame last month or I'd be out yet another $200.00!

distortedtj The only Political "threads" I've read have been on this forum. I do alot of reading about the canidates on news sites and in the papers. It would be nice to see the media not trying to push some of what they do, but yet focus on more of what the canidates have done and will do.

I try to keep "my" political beliefs of the canidates to myself due to my certian position.

MoSo Normally I wouldn't even pay much attention to the VP picks, but after 8 years of Cheney, I thik it's a huge issue.

And, on the National Guard issue:
The Associated Press: Palin's national guard faces a crisis in personnel

www.kansascity.com | 09/03/2008 | Palin hasn't ordered Alaska National Guard to do anything
Quote:
Palin hasn't ordered Alaska National Guard to do anything
When presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain introduced Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate last Friday, the Arizona senator emphasized her role as the commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard.

Later, when questions were raised about Palin's lack of experience in national and international affairs, the McCain campaign pointed again to her military command experience as governor. Some reporters have tried to follow up.

"Can you tell me one decision that she made as commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard?" CNN journalist Campbell Brown asked Monday while interviewing McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds. "Just one?"

Bounds couldn't, because Palin has never personally ordered the state guard to do anything.

Instead, here's what he said: "Any decision she has made as the commander of the (Alaska) National Guard that's deployed overseas is more of a decision than Barack Obama's been making as he's been running for president for the last two years."

However, the governor has no command authority overseas or anywhere in the United States other than Alaska, said Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, the service commander of the Alaska National Guard.

"When members of the National Guard are federalized, they work for the president," Campbell said Wednesday. "It's not just overseas. They could be federalized to go to other states or they could even be federalized in the state."

Occasions in which Palin retains command authority over the 4,200-member Alaska National Guard are whenever the Guard responds to in-state natural disasters and civic emergencies, said Campbell, who also serves as the commissioner of the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
It's not that I think Barack Obama is the best choice ever - I'd have preferred Kucinich or Howard Dean by far - by McCain/Palin does nothing for me, either.

I enjoy these threads and find knowledge in them. I also find alot of hearsay*sp*.

Funny however, I've not read one thread on Biden vs McCain. I'm also tiring of some of the reasons people think Palin is great. Fishing. Hunting. Hockey. Ok, these things may be of interest to people as well as make her a down to earth person, they do not however translate into an ability to run the country. I'd rather see the real qualities she has instead of the bullshit fluff and her "dirty librarian" look, and there must be some qualities or McCain would not have chosen her.

This is not necessarily this forum however, I'm just seeing thread after thread of fluff about her. It's so odd. Almost like a game because of the "sainthood" of Obama.

Before you dismiss the fact that Sarah Palin is Commander of the Alaska National Guard consider this.

Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It's on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska , Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden's and certainly by far exceeds Obama's.

She's also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country's defense. Given Alaska 's proximity to Russia , she may have security clearances we don't even know about.

According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.

She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.
And Biden can bite me.

I have a very strong dislike for that goober.
