|Buz 1||best way to check for that issue is to turn on headlights to see how much charge u have on the battery. if lights r dim u have bad connection, battery, or alt.. if lights r strong,, hit the starter switch. if it dims ur lights the connection from batt-starter is good,,but starter is bad,, or going bad(too much draw.) if it doesn't dim ur lights u likely have a bad connection between battery & starter..|

|ChiefQM||I am sorry to say I did fix it - inadvertently. My initial goal was to simply wipe the check engine light off the dash, if only for a day or so. While removing the neutral cable from the battery, I noticed that the clamp was broken. I replaced the clamp and cleaned both terminals. The problem did not occur again, which tells me, much to my chagrin, that it was a connection problem, something I should have checked first. Good luck.|

97 TJ Ignition problems...
Okay sports fans. Last week I had a couple episodes wherein I would turn the key with the clutch fully depressed and nothing would happen. I persisted in stomping the clutch pedal, in case it was the neutral safety switch, and turning the key until the engine started. It would then start with no problems for the next 3 or 4 times it was driven. I promptly forgot about it over the weekend and this morning, when I went out to drive it, it started with no problem. Twice, in fact. The third time, it wouldn't do anything. The lights illuminated on the instrument panel for awhile, then there was nothing. When I put the hazard lights on, all they would do was buzz. I had AAA take it home and got out the Haynes Manual. After cross-checking with this and other forums, I was fairly confident the problem was the ignition switch. I picked one up and installed it - nothing broken inside that I could find - when I tried it, the lights were all back on the dash, but the engine would barely turn over. I put a booster pack on the battery and tried again, no different. I checked Fuse 11 and it appears to be intact. I also noticed that the headlights don't come on now when the ignition is off. When my stress meter pegged on high, I quit before I broke something. For what it's worth: I had a new computer put in a few weeks ago. Any ideas??
