CJ-John That does seem high as it seems to always cost at least twice as much to fix up as you think. I gave $3400. for my 98% rust free (high desert western Colorado) CJ7 last fall with a V8 4 speed and hardtop. and now have another $2000. or so in it on ltires wheels and little things and am yet to get it painted so your $5500. will more likely turn into 8 or 9 I'm sure mine will! If that's ok make sure the under side is rust free.

4Jeepn sounds like the owner is trying to recoup the money from the engine. Also sounds like the rest of the jeep needs a fair amount of work.. is there a link or some pic's you can post.
So let review.. new tires.. $1,000, body work...$200, new paint job, $500 for yourself, Interior work.. $200, so those are ball parks.. if fixed up is this jeep work 7k? Plus all the other stuff you might not know about..

Keep looking... for 5500 you can get a much nicer jeep.

79 cj7 I'm looking at. Help?

I'm looking at a79 cj7 and the asking price is $5,500. This seems a little high to me but I just wanna make sure. Im looking for a project but not a huge project and this does fit that scenario. It does however need a little body work, paint job, new tires, interior work, ect. From what I know it has a newer jasper engine, transmission was newly rebuilt, new carburator, new alternator, new battery, and new radiator. I don't know if any of this info helps but based on this what would some of you guys offer.

It is a metal body, not fiberglass.
